Every portable projector on this site has small drivers firing out of a plastic body, because that is what portability costs. A separate subwoofer is the single biggest change you can make to how a projector sounds, and at this price it is not a close call.

Key features

225 W maximum output, 2.1 channels

Four full-range 2-inch drivers sit in the bar, with a 5.25-inch driver in the wireless subwoofer. The subwoofer connects itself — no cable across the floor.

HDMI ARC, optical, coaxial, USB and Bluetooth 5.0

ARC means one cable to a television and the TV remote controls the volume. Optical covers older sets and most projectors. Bluetooth 5.0 handles phones.

Three preset sound modes

Movie, music and news presets, switched from the remote. Not room correction — simple EQ presets that do what they say.

Wall mountable, and it has an FM tuner

The bar can sit on a cabinet or go on the wall. There is also an FM radio built in, which is unusual on a soundbar and genuinely useful in a kitchen or workshop.

Who it's for

  • Anyone who has bought a portable projector and discovered that the built-in speakers are the weak point.
  • A first soundbar for a bedroom or a second living room, where a full home cinema system is overkill.
  • Anyone who wants a subwoofer without running a cable across the room.
  • Not a Dolby Atmos system. This is a straightforward 2.1 — for object-based surround, the JBL Bar range is where to look.

Frequently asked questions

Will it connect to my projector?

Through optical or Bluetooth on almost any projector, and through HDMI ARC if the projector has an ARC-capable HDMI port — most portable models do not, so optical is the usual route.

Does the subwoofer need its own power outlet?

Yes. Wireless refers to the audio signal, not the power. The subwoofer plugs into a socket near where you place it.
