The 44mm Galaxy Watch8 is the larger of the two Bluetooth models, and the size difference is mostly about the screen and the battery rather than the feature list — the 40mm runs the same processor and the same sensors. What you get for the extra 4mm is a 1.5-inch 480 x 480 panel and a 435mAh cell instead of 325mAh. This is the Bluetooth version, which is the only Galaxy Watch8 Samsung sells through its Hong Kong channel.
Key features
A 3,000-nit display you can actually read outdoors
Samsung quotes 3,000 nits peak on the Super AMOLED panel, which is the specification that matters most for a watch — a wrist display spends its life in daylight, angled away from you, being glanced at for a second. Always-on display is supported, and at 8.6mm thick the case stays under a shirt cuff despite the larger battery.
Sensors that go beyond heart rate
Alongside the optical heart rate sensor and SpO2 there is an infrared skin temperature sensor and a BIA sensor for body composition — the second one estimates body fat and skeletal muscle from a brief measurement with two fingers on the case. ECG and blood pressure are also supported through Samsung Health Monitor, with conditions worth knowing before you buy; see the FAQ below.
Dual-band GPS
The Watch8 uses L1 + L5 dual-band GNSS rather than single-band. The practical difference shows up between tall buildings and under tree cover, where a single-band receiver tends to draw your route through the side of a building. For running routes through Hong Kong's built-up districts, this is the more useful upgrade than any software feature.
Calls from the wrist
There is a speaker and a microphone on board, so calls can be taken on the watch while it is connected to your phone. Bluetooth 5.3, dual-band Wi-Fi and NFC are all present, and the case is rated 5ATM with IP68 and MIL-STD-810H.

Who it's for
- Galaxy phone owners, who are the only ones who can use ECG and blood pressure measurement.
- Runners who want dual-band GPS and do not want to carry a phone for basic tracking.
- Anyone who wants a large, bright wrist display and takes calls through it during the day.
- Not for iPhone users. The Galaxy Wearable app does not exist on iOS, so the watch cannot be set up at all.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use ECG and blood pressure measurement in Hong Kong?
Hong Kong is a supported region, but three conditions apply: the watch has to be paired with a Samsung Galaxy phone rather than any Android handset, the user must be 22 or older, and both watch and phone need to have been bought in a supported region. If you carry a non-Samsung Android phone, treat these two features as unavailable.
Will my old Galaxy Watch straps fit?
No. Samsung states that the Watch8 series uses a new dedicated attachment mechanism and is not compatible with straps from previously released models, so Watch4, Watch5 and Watch6 straps will not fit. Buy Watch8-specific straps.
What is the difference between this and the LTE version?
The LTE version has a built-in eSIM and works without your phone nearby. Samsung does not sell an LTE Galaxy Watch8 through its Hong Kong channel, so any LTE unit here is parallel imported without local warranty, and eSIM activation depends on your carrier supporting watch eSIM.
