The Samsung Crystal UHD U8000F 55-inch 4K Smart TV (2025, international version, model UA55U8000FKXXT) (some retailers list it as the UE800F) is Samsung's entry-level 4K line: Crystal Processor 4K, HDR10+, Motion Xcelerator and Tizen with One UI. HK$3,280, in stock.

First, what tier this actually is

The U8000F is Samsung's entry-level 4K set. We are not going to pretend it is a flagship — here is what you are working with:

• 50Hz panel, with an HDMI ceiling of 4K 60Hz. This is not a high-refresh gaming TV.
• Three HDMI ports and one USB. If you are connecting a set-top box, a console and a soundbar, count them first.
• Direct-lit LED backlight with no local dimming zones. Black levels and contrast will not match Mini LED or OLED.
• 20W of audio across 2 channels. Fine for everyday TV; add a soundbar if you want low end for films.

What you do get at HK$3,280 is everything most people actually use: Netflix, YouTube and Disney+ all run smoothly, HDR10+ is supported, and ALLM, VRR and HGiG are all present.

Gaming: entry level, but the basics are there

Samsung lists three gaming features on this model:

• ALLM — the TV switches to game mode when it detects a console
• VRR — variable refresh rate
• HGiG — HDR tone mapping for games

But be clear about the ceiling: the panel is 50Hz and HDMI tops out at 4K 60Hz. The 120Hz modes on a PS5 or Xbox Series X are not available. This suits slower-paced games, a Switch, or a console used mainly for streaming. For 4K high refresh, see the QN70F below.

Placement

For a 55-inch 4K screen we suggest a viewing distance of roughly 1.7 to 2.3 metres. The stand is a two-foot design spanning 812.6mm, so a unit at least 85cm wide is needed. Wall mounting is VESA 200 x 200.

The U8000H costs HK$600 more and is specified identically to this set. Compared row by row against Samsung's two spec sheets, the refresh rate, processor, HDR, contrast processing, audio, gaming features, connections and chassis dimensions are all the same; the only difference is that the H carries the 2026 "Vision AI TV" name. If you want the newer model year, take the U8000H; if the year does not matter to you, keep the HK$600.

If you game, or want a real step up in picture, HK$1,700 more buys the QN70F 55-inch at HK$4,980 — Mini LED backlight, 100Hz native, and four HDMI ports all running 4K 144Hz. The price gap is modest; the class gap is not.

If size matters more than picture, the same model at 65 inches is HK$3,980 — HK$700 for ten more inches, usually better value than paying to move up a tier. Larger again, there is the U8500F 75-inch at HK$6,580.

Frequently asked questions

Will the U8000F receive Hong Kong free-to-air channels?

Yes. This set has a DVB-T2 digital tuner, along with an analogue tuner and TV Key support, and our technician tunes the channels during installation. (If you see this model listed elsewhere with an "ATSC" tuner, that is the North American version's specification, not the international version we sell.)

Is the refresh rate 60Hz or 50Hz?

Samsung publishes 50Hz. People sometimes see "4K 60Hz" and read it as a 60Hz panel — that figure is the HDMI signal ceiling, not the panel refresh rate. They are two different things.

Can I game on it with a PS5?

Yes, but at 4K the ceiling is 60Hz, so the console's 120Hz modes are not available. ALLM, VRR and HGiG are all supported. If gaming is your main use, we suggest spending HK$1,700 more on the QN70F 55-inch: 100Hz native, with four HDMI ports all running 4K 144Hz.

What is the difference between the U8000F and the U8000H?

Compared row by row against Samsung's two spec sheets, the refresh rate, processor, HDR, contrast processing, audio, gaming features, connections and chassis dimensions are all identical. The only difference is that the U8000H is the 2026 model carrying the "Samsung Vision AI TV" name, at HK$600 more. Take the H if you want the newer model year; otherwise keep the money.
