Hong Kong flats do not leave much surface free, and Acton III is sized for that: 260 × 170 × 150mm and 2.85kg, so a bedside table, a bookshelf or a kitchen windowsill will take it. It keeps most of what defines the larger Marshall mains speakers — physical knobs, two-way drivers, a ported cabinet — in a smaller box.

Key features

Two-way drivers, three amplifiers, 60W total

A 30W Class D amplifier drives the woofer and each of the two tweeters has its own 15W Class D amplifier, for 60W combined. Frequency response is quoted at 45–20,000 Hz, matching the larger Stanmore III at the low end, with a maximum SPL of 95 dB at 1 metre. For a cabinet this size, that low-end reach is genuinely useful rather than a paper figure.

Re-engineered stereo soundstage

The tweeter arrangement was reworked for a wider stereo soundstage than the previous generation. In a bedroom or at a desk that means instrument placement stays readable even when you are off to one side. Dynamic Loudness adjusts tonal balance with volume, so quiet listening does not thin out at both ends.

Bluetooth 5.2 with a 3.5mm input

Acton III runs Bluetooth 5.2, is Ready for Bluetooth LE Audio, and is rated for a 10m range. Wired connection is limited to a single 3.5mm input — there is no RCA and no HDMI. A phone, laptop or player over 3.5mm is fine, but a turntable that needs RCA points you towards Stanmore III instead.

Panel knobs and the Marshall Bluetooth app

Source, volume, bass and treble sit on the top panel alongside play/pause, skip and a power switch. The Marshall Bluetooth app adds EQ, Placement Correction and over-the-air updates. On a tight shelf or hard against a wall, Placement Correction pulls back the low-frequency build-up.

Who it's for

  • Anyone short on shelf or desk space who still wants a real step up from laptop speakers.
  • Listeners who stream from a phone or computer and only occasionally plug in a 3.5mm cable.
  • Buyers who want the Marshall look and physical knobs without the speaker taking over the room.
  • Who it isn't for: anyone planning to fill a party space, or to connect a TV or a turntable over RCA. With a 95 dB maximum SPL and a single 3.5mm input, those jobs belong to Stanmore III or Woburn III.

FAQ

Does Acton III have a battery so I can take it outside?

No. Acton III is a mains-powered speaker and needs a 100–240V outlet. If you want something portable, Emberton III is the one to look at: it carries an IP67 rating and over 32 hours of playtime.

Is it loud enough for a small flat?

Yes. 60W total and 95 dB at 1 metre covers normal listening in a typical Hong Kong bedroom or small living room comfortably. Push it near its limit and the bass tightens up, but domestic volumes rarely get there.

Can I connect it to a TV?

You can run a 3.5mm cable from a TV headphone or analogue audio output. Note that Acton III has neither HDMI nor RCA, so a newer TV with only optical or HDMI ARC output will need a converter.
