If you want Sennheiser's wireless noise cancelling without every flagship specification, the ACCENTUM Wireless is that slot in the range. It pairs 37 mm dynamic drivers with hybrid active noise cancelling and up to 50 hours of playback with ANC running, in a 222 g body. Codec support reaches aptX HD, which is more than its position in the range would suggest.

Key features

50 hours of playback, 10 minutes for 5 hours

Sennheiser rates it at up to 50 hours over Bluetooth with ANC on. A full charge takes around 3 hours, and a 10-minute top-up returns up to 5 hours of music. On a two-hour daily round trip that works out to charging roughly once a week rather than remembering a cable every night.

A codec list that includes aptX HD

Bluetooth 5.2, class 1, with SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX HD, mSBC and CVSD. aptX HD raises the bitrate ceiling above standard aptX, which Android users notice on local lossless files and higher-rate streams; iPhones use AAC. mSBC and CVSD are the call codecs.

Hybrid ANC and beamforming mics

Noise cancelling is a hybrid system sampling from both inside and outside the cup, which is most effective against the steady low-frequency rumble of the MTR and buses. For calls there are two MEMS microphones with beamforming, covering 50 Hz to 8 kHz — enough for daily video meetings and phone calls.

37 mm drivers in a 222 g body

The 37 mm dynamic drivers cover 10 Hz to 22 kHz at 106 dB SPL (1 kHz / 0 dBFS), with THD under 0.3% at 1 kHz / 100 dB SPL. At 222 g the headphone is on the light side for a closed ANC over-ear. The Sennheiser Smart Control app on iOS and Android handles EQ and settings.

Who it's for

  • Daily MTR and bus commuters who want long battery life and no nightly charging ritual.
  • Android users who want aptX HD without stepping up to the flagship model.
  • Office workers on frequent video calls who need beamforming mics to handle room noise.
  • Who it isn't for: if you want the longest runtime and the fuller app feature set, look at the MOMENTUM 4 Wireless instead (60 hours, aptX Adaptive); and no closed ANC model, this one included, belongs in a mixing chain.

FAQ

How does it differ from the MOMENTUM 4 Wireless?

Three specification points mainly: 37 mm drivers versus 42 mm; up to 50 hours with ANC versus up to 60; and aptX HD versus aptX Adaptive. Both use hybrid ANC, both are Bluetooth 5.2, and both are supported by Sennheiser's Smart Control apps. For everyday commuting the gap is smaller than the spec sheet suggests.

What do I need for aptX HD to work?

Your transmitting device has to support aptX HD, which in practice means certain Android phones and digital audio players. iPhones do not support the aptX family and fall back to AAC, which still sounds perfectly normal. Check your handset's codec list before buying.

Does maximum ANC feel oppressive?

Hybrid ANC works hardest on continuous low-frequency noise, and some people sense pressure on the ears when a room goes completely quiet. If you are sensitive to that, lower the cancellation strength in the Sennheiser Smart Control app, or book a fitting at the Kwun Tong shop and try it first.
