Bluetooth and Noise-Cancelling Headphones: HK$58 to HK$2,599

Apart from one HK$58 wired backup pair, the whole range is Bluetooth wireless headphones, built around active noise cancelling (ANC) — Sony, Bose, Samsung and JBL, up to a HK$2,599 flagship. Most of the range is true wireless earbuds, with three over-ear and on-ear models alongside them.

First, the difference between active noise cancelling and passive isolation

These two terms get used interchangeably, but they are different technologies at very different prices.

• Passive isolation — the earbud tip or ear cup physically seals the ear. No electronics, no battery drain. Effective against mid and high frequencies (voices, keyboards), much less so against low-frequency rumble (bus engines, air conditioning)
• Active noise cancelling (ANC) — microphones sample the surrounding noise and the headphone generates an inverted waveform to cancel it. It targets exactly the low-frequency continuous noise that isolation cannot handle — the MTR, buses, aircraft, office air conditioning. It needs power, so it exists only on wireless models

In short: if you mostly listen on the MTR or a bus, ANC makes an overwhelming difference; if you mostly listen at home, passive isolation is already enough.

By budget

Above HK$2,000 — flagship ANC

Sony WF-1000XM6 (HK$2,599) and the Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen) (HK$2,450) are the two strongest noise cancellers in the range.

The main difference between them is form factor rather than quality: the Sony is true wireless, which suits commuting and exercise and disappears into a pocket; the Bose is over-ear, which spreads the pressure better over long sessions and typically runs longer on a charge, at the cost of bulk. Out and about, choose earbuds; sitting down to listen, choose over-ear.

HK$1,000–2,000 — the Samsung ecosystem

Galaxy Buds4 Pro (HK$1,898) and Galaxy Buds4 (HK$1,398) both have active noise cancelling. If you already use a Samsung phone or a Samsung TV, pairing and switching between them is noticeably smoother.

HK$500–1,000 — the value bracket

JBL Tune 780NC (HK$698) is the cheapest over-ear ANC pair we stock — the sensible way to find out whether you like the over-ear form factor without committing two and a half thousand dollars to it. JBL Live Flex 3 (HK$799) covers the same bracket in true wireless; the Tune Flex 2 is out of stock for now.

Under HK$500 — everyday use

JBL Tune 530BT (HK$330) is a light on-ear wireless pair with good battery life, well suited to classes and video calls. For true wireless under HK$300 there are the JBL Live Pro+ TWS (HK$278, with ANC) and Live Free NC+ (HK$288) — both former flagships at run-out money; WhatsApp us for which colours are in stock. JBL Tune 110 (HK$58) is the only wired pair in the range — nothing to charge, no latency, and a useful backup or a way to use older equipment.

Using headphones with a TV — two things worth knowing

Plenty of customers buy headphones specifically for watching TV at night without disturbing the household. That works, but two points need stating plainly:

• Bluetooth introduces latency. Picture and sound can drift out of sync with lip movements. Most TVs have an audio delay or sync setting that lets you compensate, but it cannot be eliminated entirely. Fine for drama; not recommended for gaming.
• Remember to switch the output back to the TV speakers. If the headphones are switched off or out of range while the TV's sound output is still pointed at that Bluetooth device, the TV goes completely silent — while the picture and volume bar look entirely normal. If what you actually want is better sound for everyone in the room rather than private listening, a soundbar is the better answer — particularly if the problem is dialogue you cannot make out, where a soundbar helps far more directly than headphones. For portable playback, see the speaker range.

Frequently asked

Are these international-version, and how does that differ from local stock?

Yes — the same as our TVs. The hardware, specification and features are identical; the main difference is that the warranty is provided by us rather than by the brand. So if something goes wrong, come to us directly rather than the manufacturer's support line.

What is the warranty period on headphones?

Does switching ANC on affect sound quality?

On modern designs the effect is small, but it is not zero — on some models the bass response shifts slightly with ANC engaged. In practice, in a noisy environment the improvement from ANC far outweighs its side effects; in a quiet room you can simply switch ANC off and save battery.

True wireless or over-ear — how do I choose?

It depends where you use them. Frequently out, need them to pack away, using them while exercising → true wireless earbuds. Sitting down for long sessions, wanting longer battery life and more comfortable weight distribution → over-ear. Both form factors can cancel noise very effectively; it is not the case that over-ear is automatically better.

I wear glasses — does that affect over-ear headphones?

Both the passive isolation and the active cancellation of an over-ear pair depend on the seal between the ear cup and your head. The arms of a pair of glasses create a small gap at the edge of that cup, and once the seal is broken both isolation and ANC lose effectiveness — most noticeably in the low frequencies.

If you wear glasses all day, true wireless earbuds are usually the more consistent choice, because they seal inside the ear canal rather than around the ear, so the glasses arms make no difference.

Will they work with a Samsung TV?

Yes, over standard Bluetooth pairing — note the latency point in the section above. If you already use a Samsung phone or a Samsung TV, the Galaxy Buds range switches between devices more smoothly.
