Codec support is the headline here: under Bluetooth 5.4 the MOMENTUM True Wireless 4 carries aptX Adaptive/Lossless alongside LC3, with Auracast available after a firmware update. Each bud weighs 6.2 g, runs a 7 mm TrueResponse dynamic driver, is rated IP54 for dust and splashes, and charges from a case that takes both USB-C and Qi wireless.

Key features

Bluetooth 5.4 with aptX Lossless and LC3

Supported codecs are SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX Adaptive/Lossless and LC3. LC3 is the new low-power audio standard, while aptX Lossless carries a lossless stream when conditions allow — both depend on your phone supporting them. Sennheiser lists Auracast as available via firmware update only, so it is not an out-of-the-box feature.

7 mm TrueResponse drivers

Each bud uses a 7 mm TrueResponse dynamic driver covering 5 Hz to 21 kHz, rated at 107 dB SPL (1 kHz / 1 mW) with THD below 0.08% at 1 kHz / 94 dB. That distortion figure is low for a true wireless earbud, and it shows in vocals and strings that keep their detail instead of sounding compressed.

30 hours total and wireless charging

The buds run up to 7.5 hours with ANC off and up to 7 hours with ANC on, for up to 30 hours of total playtime with the case. Batteries are 75 mAh per earbud and 820 mAh in the case. An 8-minute quick charge returns about an hour of playback, and the case accepts USB-C or Qi wireless charging.

Three mics per bud, IP54, app control

Each earbud carries three microphones with beamforming, feeding a hybrid adaptive ANC system. The IP54 rating covers dust and splashes, which is enough for hiking, running or walking through rain, though not for swimming. The Sennheiser Smart Control app on iOS and Android handles tuning and settings.

Who it's for

  • Android users whose phones support aptX Adaptive/Lossless and want the higher-rate link on true wireless.
  • Anyone using one set for commuting, errands and light training who needs IP54 protection.
  • Buyers who want something small — 6.2 g per bud and a case that disappears in a pocket.
  • Who it isn't for: people who want all-day playback on one charge. At up to 7.5 hours per bud a long flight means a mid-journey return to the case, and this is not rated for submersion.

FAQ

How much water does IP54 actually cover?

IP54 means dust protection plus resistance to splashing water from any direction, so sweat, drizzle and splashes at the sink are fine. It is not an immersion rating — do not wear them swimming, in the shower, or anywhere they go under water.

Will I definitely get aptX Lossless?

That depends on your phone. aptX Adaptive/Lossless needs support on the transmitting side, which today means certain Android devices; iPhones use AAC. Check what your handset supports before buying, or that part of the specification stays unused.

Does Auracast work straight out of the box?

No. Sennheiser lists Auracast as available via firmware update only, so after unboxing you will need the Sennheiser Smart Control app to check for and install firmware. Before that update the option may not appear in the app's settings.
