What It Does Well, and What It Doesn't
What it fixes: the single most common complaint about modern televisions — that the speakers fire downward or backward and dialogue disappears into the cabinet. Two 40W racetrack drivers in a dedicated enclosure, pointed at you, solve that immediately.
What it does not do: deep bass. It is rated to 70Hz. For context, using our own published figures across the JBL range:

70Hz to 35Hz is a full octave. That octave is where explosions, film scores and bass lines live. If that is what you are shopping for, this is not the bar — go to the Bar 500MK2 at HK$2,980, which adds a 10-inch wireless subwoofer.
If what you want is to hear what people are saying, this does that for HK$980 and takes up no floor space at all.
Will It Look Right Under Your TV?
A 614mm bar is proportionate under a screen up to about 50 inches. Above that it starts to look undersized — a 65" television is roughly 1440mm wide, so the bar covers less than half of it.
- 32" – 43" TV — ideal proportions
- 50" TV — still looks right
- 55" and above — it will work, but it will look small. Consider the Bar 500MK2 instead

Connecting It
HDMI ARC
One cable to the television. Your TV needs an HDMI port labelled ARC. Depending on the model and its settings, this may also let the TV remote control the soundbar's volume.
Optical
For televisions without HDMI ARC. An optical input is provided.
Bluetooth
Bluetooth 4.2 for streaming music, podcasts and anything else from a phone or tablet. Worth knowing: our larger JBL bars use Bluetooth 5.3, which has longer range. For a soundbar sitting a few metres away with your phone in the same room, 4.2 is not a limitation in practice.
USB
A USB Type-A port plays MP3 and WAV files directly from a drive — useful if you keep a music library on a stick rather than streaming it.
Sound Processing
Dolby Digital decoding for films, television and streaming content. JBL Surround Sound widens the presentation beyond the physical width of the bar.
To be clear about what a 2.0 system is: there are no rear speakers and no height channels. JBL Surround Sound broadens the stereo image; it does not place sound behind you. For that, see the Bar 800MK2, which includes detachable wireless rear speakers.
