The one-minute verdict
The Samsung HW-Q990H (HK$7,980, in stock) is Samsung's 2026 flagship soundbar system: 11.1.4 channels, 23 drivers, four separate pieces — main bar, wireless subwoofer, and two wireless rear speakers.
The reason to buy it is straightforward: if your TV is a Samsung, nothing else integrates like this. Q-Symphony lets your TV's own speakers keep playing alongside the soundbar instead of switching off, and Eclipsa Audio is exclusive to Samsung's ecosystem.
The reason not to buy it is equally straightforward: the official spec sheet lists no Dolby Vision, no DTS format of any kind, and no USB music playback. If you own a stack of DTS:X Blu-rays, or your projector or player outputs Dolby Vision, those three gaps will affect you in practice.
Four layers below, one at a time. Every figure comes from Samsung Thailand's official product page (SKU HW-Q990H/XT, identical to the unit we sell) and JBL's official APAC spec sheets — not from review sites.
What the Q990H actually is
"11.1.4" needs unpacking:

The official spec sheet lists "Number of Speaker" as 23 — twenty-three physical drivers across the set. That number matters, because plenty of cheaper soundbars advertise Dolby Atmos while generating height and surround entirely in DSP. On the Q990H, both the rears and the height channels are real drivers.
All four pieces need mains power. The rears draw 19W each, the subwoofer 48W, the main bar 41W — meaning you need a socket for each rear speaker. This is the most commonly overlooked placement issue; more on it below.
Layer 1: Q990H vs Q990F — what does HK$1,700 more buy?
This is the section worth reading. We compared Samsung's official Q990H and Q990F spec sheets line by line.
On hardware, the two are identical — not a single figure differs.

Put plainly: the extra money buys four software features and a new app, not better speakers. And Tap Sound — tap your phone on the bar to hand off playback — has disappeared from the H generation's official spec sheet.
So our advice is direct:
- You already own a Q990F — do not upgrade. It will sound exactly the same.
- You are buying new — don't let this put you off. We have no Q990F in stock and it is thinning out on the market generally, so in practice you are not choosing between the two. Just know what you are paying for.
- You specifically want Eclipsa Audio — then it has to be the H. We wrote separately about what the format is: Eclipsa Audio 3D sound.
Layer 2: with a Samsung TV — Q-Symphony and Eclipsa Audio
If your TV is a Samsung, the Q990H does two things no other brand's soundbar can.
Q-Symphony. Normally, connecting a soundbar mutes your TV's own speakers. Q-Symphony does not — the TV speakers and the soundbar play together, with the TV assigning channels across both. In practice you get a wider soundstage and dialogue that sits closer to the picture, because the voices come from the screen itself.
Eclipsa Audio. This is the open 3D audio format Samsung developed with Google. The Q990H spec sheet lists "Eclipsa Audio :: Yes". The Q990F has no such row.
Both need your TV to support them. It is worth confirming your specific model before buying — send us your TV model number on WhatsApp and we will check the official specification for you rather than leaving you to guess. Everything in our Samsung TV range can be paired.
One thing to be clear about: the Q990H is not Samsung-only. It uses standard HDMI eARC, so it works normally with LG, Sony or TCL sets and still delivers Dolby Atmos. You simply lose Q-Symphony.
Layer 3: Q990H vs JBL Bar 1300 MK2
These are the two top soundbars we hold in stock, and both are 11.1.4. The JBL Bar 1300 MK2 is HK$9,780 — HK$1,800 more than the Q990H.

How to choose:
- Samsung TV → Q990H. JBL cannot replicate Q-Symphony, and the Samsung is HK$1,800 cheaper.
- You own DTS:X discs, or your source outputs Dolby Vision → JBL. Neither appears on Samsung's official spec sheet.
- You need to connect three devices (PS5 + Switch + set-top box) → JBL. Three HDMI inputs versus two is a real difference.
- Small flat, nowhere to put a big subwoofer → Q990H. Samsung's sub is considerably smaller and 3.7 kg lighter.
- You want rears behind the sofa where there is no socket → JBL. Detachable battery-powered rears solve exactly that.

One warning: do not compare total wattage. The figure JBL publishes for the Bar 1300MK2 is "Total speaker power output (Max. @THD 1%)" — a peak figure measured at 1% distortion. Samsung does not publish output power at all; the 41W / 19W / 48W on its spec sheet is power consumption, not output. The two are not comparable. Anyone setting Samsung's 41W against JBL's four-digit number is comparing the wrong things.
Layer 4: the full ladder — where should you get off?
Not everyone needs 11.1.4. Our six in-stock soundbars run from HK$680 to HK$9,780, and they are built for genuinely different jobs.

The biggest single step is from the Bar 800 MK2 (HK$4,480) to the Q990H (HK$7,980). That extra HK$3,500 buys real height drivers (the 800 MK2's official spec sheet lists none), one more HDMI input, a substantially higher channel count, and Q-Symphony if your TV is a Samsung. If your TV is not a Samsung and virtual height doesn't bother you, the 800 MK2 is very good value.

Practical questions for a Hong Kong flat
How big does the TV need to be? The main bar is 1232 mm wide. On a TV cabinet, a 55-inch set (about 1225 mm wide) is just about level with it and a 65-inch (about 1445 mm) looks right. At 43 or 50 inches the bar ends up wider than the TV — harmless acoustically, but it looks off.
Where do the rears go? Each rear needs its own socket; they are wireless for signal, not for power. Check behind and beside your sofa before you buy. If there is no socket, you will need an extension lead, or the battery-powered rears of the Bar 1300 MK2.
Will the subwoofer fit? At 249 × 251.8 × 249 mm it is close to a cube and compact for its class, at 8.3 kg. It tucks beside a TV cabinet or next to the sofa.
Does it work on 220V? Yes. The official spec sheet says "Free Voltage :: Yes" — universal voltage, so it runs on Hong Kong's 220V directly, no transformer. This is the most common question about international-version units, and Samsung has answered it in writing.
Wall mounting? The official accessory list includes a wall mount bracket in the box, so there is nothing extra to buy. We offer on-site installation, quoted by address.
Connected but no sound? Nine times out of ten it is HDMI-CEC or the audio output setting on the TV. We have a guide for that: no sound on your TV.
Who should not buy the Q990H
- You own DTS:X or DTS-HD Blu-rays. Samsung's official spec sheet lists no DTS format at all. That is not a detail — it affects your disc collection directly.
- Your source outputs Dolby Vision. The Q990H passes HDR10+ only. Worth noting: if your TV is itself a Samsung, it does not support Dolby Vision either, so nothing is lost. With a projector or third-party player, it matters.
- You want to play music from a USB stick. The spec sheet states "USB Music Playback :: No".
- You want Alexa. The spec sheet lists Alexa: No and Bixby: No — Works with Google only.
- You want VRR passthrough for gaming. 4K 120Hz passthrough is listed; VRR is not. If VRR matters to you, connect the console straight to the TV and run the soundbar over eARC.
- You do not have room for four separate pieces. A 2.0 or 5.1 bar will serve you far better.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a Samsung TV to use the Q990H?
No. It uses standard HDMI eARC and works normally with any brand of TV, Dolby Atmos included. What a Samsung TV adds is Q-Symphony, where the TV speakers play alongside the soundbar.
Is the voltage a problem in Hong Kong?
No. The official spec sheet lists Free Voltage, so it runs on Hong Kong's 220V directly with no transformer.
Does the Q990H support Dolby Vision?
No. The HDR row on the official spec sheet lists HDR10+ only. If you need Dolby Vision passthrough, look at the JBL Bar 1300 MK2.
Are the rear speakers genuinely wireless?

Do I need to buy a wall bracket separately?
