Samsung QN70H vs QN80H|Which 2026 Neo QLED Is Worth Buying

In Samsung's 2026 Neo QLED range, the QN70H and QN80H are one character apart in the name, and plenty of people assume the difference is just screen size. It is not. These two sets are a full tier apart, and the gap sits exactly where it affects everyday use.

We compared them line by line against Samsung's published international specification (QA65QN70HAKXXT and QA65QN80HAKXXT). Every figure below has a source.

The short version: it is the panel, not the size

One difference drives everything else: the QN70H has a 50Hz native panel and the QN80H has a 100Hz one.

That cascades. The QN70H's three HDMI ports all cap at 4K 60Hz; the QN80H's four ports all run 4K 144Hz. Samsung's spec sheet does not even list a VRR row for the QN70H, while the QN80H adds FreeSync Premium Pro on top.

Line by line (65-inch, Samsung's published figures)

Wi-Fi Wi-Fi 5 Wi-Fi 6
Depth without stand 25.7 mm 52 mm
Power (max) 220 W 250 W
Design Air Slim, Aero Linear stand Monolith Edge, round feet

Both share: Quantum Mini LED backlight, Supreme Mini LED Dimming, Color Booster Pro, Wide Viewing Angle, Filmmaker Mode, Tizen, ALLM, HGiG and eARC.

The one thing the QN70H wins: it is half as deep

Without the stand, the 65-inch QN70H is 25.7mm and the QN80H is 52mm.

If you are wall-mounting and want the set to sit nearly flush, that is a real difference — one finger versus two. The QN70H uses Samsung's Air Slim design with an Aero Linear centre stand that narrows to 308mm, so a small unit still works.

Outside of depth, the QN70H does not beat the QN80H on a single published spec.

So is the QN70H not worth buying?

It is — for a specific person:

  • You do not game, or your console mostly streams
  • You are wall-mounting and want a body in the 25.7mm class
  • Films, series and sport are the job; 4K high refresh is not

If that is you, the QN70H 65-inch at HK$8,980 or the 55-inch at HK$6,280 does the job: Quantum Mini LED backlight, HDR10+, Color Booster Pro and the 2026 Tizen platform. The picture fundamentals are sound.

If you game, though, the QN70H is not your set — and there is something we should say plainly.

Straight talk: a cheaper set on our own shelf beats it

The Samsung M80H 65-inch at HK$7,980 is HK$1,000 less than the QN70H 65-inch and wins on every gaming specification:

Spec QN70H 65-inch HK$8,980 M80H 65-inch HK$7,980
Native refresh 50 Hz 100 Hz
VRR ceiling not listed 144 Hz
HDMI gaming ceiling 4K 60 Hz 4K 144 Hz (all three ports)
DLG 120 Hz 240 Hz
FreeSync not listed FreeSync Premium
Processor NQ4 AI Processor NQ4 AI Gen2
Depth without stand 25.7 mm 76.8 mm

The M80H loses on depth — three times thicker — and on the "Neo QLED" name. It sits in Samsung's Mini LED line, so the backlight technology is the same class without carrying that trademark.

So: wall-mounting and want it thin, take the QN70H; gaming, take the M80H and keep HK$1,000. We would rather you buy the right set than find out after delivery that a PS5 will not run 120Hz on it.

Want 80-series specs? Here is what to buy today

If you have decided you want this tier — a 100Hz panel, four high-refresh HDMI ports, Dolby Atmos — the model currently on our shelf is the QN80F:

Look at that 55-inch price: the QN80F 55-inch at HK$5,980 undercuts the QN70H 55-inch at HK$6,280. If you were considering the 55-inch QN70H, this one barely needs thinking about.

On a tighter budget, the QN70F 65-inch at HK$5,980 is also a 100Hz-class panel.

Frequently asked questions

Is the QN70H a 120Hz TV?

No. Samsung publishes a 50Hz native refresh rate and an HDMI high-frame-rate ceiling of 4K 60Hz. It does have a DLG 120Hz mode, but that works at 1080p/2K and buys the scan rate by halving vertical resolution — it is not 4K 120Hz. The QN80H is the one with a 100Hz native panel and VRR up to 144Hz.

How big should the price gap between them be?

Samsung's own Thai pricing puts the 65-inch QN70H at THB 34,990 and the QN80H at THB 41,990, a gap of roughly THB 7,000. Given the specification difference that is a fair gap — you are not paying for a model year here, you are paying for a genuinely different panel, an extra HDMI port, Dolby Atmos and Wi-Fi 6.

Does the QN70H have Dolby Atmos?

Samsung's audio section for the QN70H lists no Dolby Atmos row — only Dolby 5.1 decoding (MS12 2ch), OTS Lite and 20W across 2 channels. The QN80H lists Dolby Atmos explicitly, with 30W and 360 Audio. If sound matters to you, that is a substantive difference.

Which is better for a PS5 or Xbox Series X?

Between these two, the QN80H without question — four HDMI ports all running 4K 144Hz, with VRR and FreeSync Premium Pro. But if you simply want to game and do not need the Neo QLED name, the M80H 65-inch at HK$7,980 is also 100Hz native at 4K 144Hz, and costs less than the QN70H.
