TV (By Display Technology)
TV technology labels describe different things
A common shopping mistake is treating every display label as a mutually exclusive panel type. OLED describes a self-lit display; QLED describes quantum-dot colour in an LCD; Mini LED describes a backlight. A product can be QLED and Mini LED at the same time. Product-family names such as Neo QLED or Crystal UHD add another layer.
| Browse | What the label tells you |
|---|---|
| Crystal UHD TVs | Samsung 4K LCD family |
| QLED TVs | Quantum-dot colour in an LCD design |
| Neo QLED TVs | Samsung family combining quantum dots and Mini LED |
| Mini LED TVs | LCD backlight using smaller LEDs |
| OLED TVs | Self-lit picture pixels, no LCD backlight |
| Mini RGB TVs | Brand-specific colour/backlight implementation |
| Micro RGB / RGB LED TVs | RGB-backlight LCD implementations, not MicroLED |
Translate the technology into your room
- For films in a dark room, compare black detail, contrast and subtitle blooming. OLED and local-dimming LCD sets approach these differently.
- For daytime viewing, compare actual reflection handling and brightness, not a guaranteed winner based only on the technology name.
- For gaming, check input refresh at the resolution you use, VRR, latency mode and ports. None of the labels above guarantees identical gaming specifications.
- For repeated static content or commercial use, follow panel-care instructions and rated operating conditions. A colour or backlight label is not an unlimited-use warranty.
For the mainstream comparison, read Mini LED versus OLED versus QLED. For the newer labels, read Mini RGB versus Micro RGB; implementations differ by manufacturer, and Micro RGB should not be confused with self-emissive MicroLED.
Once you have shortlisted a technology, check screen size and placement and the exact regional model. Any colour certification or zone count must apply to that model and size.
