JBL Bar 800MK2: the Cheapest True Wireless-Rear Dolby Atmos System We Stock
The JBL Bar 800MK2 (also written JBL 800 MK2) is a 7.1-channel Dolby Atmos soundbar system: a multi-driver bar, two detachable wireless rear speakers and a 10-inch wireless subwoofer, with 780W of total output. No AV receiver, no cable runs across the room — one HDMI lead to the TV and the full surround setup is done.
HK$4,480 (was HK$5,880), in stock. Not local authorised stock — warranty provided by us, three years with free on-site service. Details under "Buying From Elechid" below.
Its place in our soundbar ladder is simple: the Bar 500MK2 (HK$2,980) is 5.1 with virtual, bounced-off-the-walls surround; this is the cheapest step up to real rear speakers behind the sofa.

Key Features
7.1 Channels: Real Rear Surround
Front and side-firing drivers handle the width; the two rear speakers behind the sofa deliver surround sound that genuinely comes from behind you — footsteps, rainfall, vehicles passing, with real directional placement rather than processor-simulated approximation. That is the difference between this and every 2.0 / 3.1 / 5.1 virtual-surround bar.
One thing said plainly: the MK2 generation has no up-firing drivers. The Dolby Atmos overhead effect is virtual height, produced by MultiBeam 3.0 and DTS Virtual:X — the rears are real, the height is virtualised. If you want physical up-firing drivers and true height channels, that is the Bar 1300MK2 (11.1.4, HK$9,780).
Detachable Wireless Rear Speakers
The two rears clip magnetically onto the ends of the bar and recharge automatically while docked — nothing extra to plug in day to day. Lift them off, set them behind the sofa, and internal batteries run them for up to ~10 hours — a full surround layout with zero cable on the floor. In a Hong Kong flat that matters: no trunking along the skirting, no drilling for rear-speaker brackets.
10-Inch Wireless Subwoofer
A 10-inch (260mm) driver with 300W takes the low end down to 35Hz — within a whisker of our flagship 1300MK2's 33Hz. Explosions, game effects and basslines carry a weight the bar alone cannot produce. The link is wireless, so park it in a corner for maximum output or beside the TV cabinet to save space.
MultiBeam 3.0, PureVoice 2.0 and SmartDetails
MultiBeam 3.0 beam-forms sound off your walls to widen the stage; PureVoice 2.0 isolates speech frequencies so dialogue stays intelligible under loud action; SmartDetails lifts quiet background layers — ambience, room tone, subtle effects — so scenes keep their texture.
Connections and Streaming
- HDMI eARC out — one cable to the TV, carrying lossless Dolby Atmos
- HDMI in — console, streaming box or Blu-ray straight in, with Dolby Vision and HDR10+ passthrough
- Optical — for older TVs
- Wi-Fi streaming — AirPlay, Google Cast, Spotify Connect, straight from the apps
- Bluetooth 5.3 — phones and laptops, instant pairing
- JBL One app — EQ, calibration, firmware updates
For most homes, one HDMI eARC lead replaces an entire AV receiver — nothing to configure, no speaker wire to hide.
Who It Suits
- You want real surround without wiring — this is the cheapest entry point we stock
- Mainly movies — true rears plus 35Hz bass is the most audible home-cinema upgrade
- Gaming — console straight into the HDMI input; directional audio earns its keep in shooters and horror
- Music — Wi-Fi streaming beats Bluetooth for quality, and AirPlay / Google Cast / Spotify Connect are all here

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Dolby Atmos on the Bar 800MK2 real or virtual?
Both, honestly: the rear surround is real (two physical wireless speakers behind you); the overhead height is virtual (the MK2 has no up-firing drivers — height is produced by MultiBeam 3.0 and DTS Virtual:X processing). For physical up-firing drivers, step up to the Bar 1300MK2.
Are the rear speakers wireless, and how long do they run?
Fully wireless. They recharge automatically when docked on the bar and run up to ~10 hours off the dock — comfortably two or three films.
Does the subwoofer need a cable?
Only power. It pairs wirelessly, so place it wherever the bass sounds best — corners for maximum output, beside the TV cabinet to save space.
Do I need an AV receiver?
No. This is a self-contained 7.1 system; a single HDMI eARC connection to the TV completes the install.
How do I connect it to my TV?
Soundbar HDMI OUT (eARC) to the TV's HDMI ARC/eARC port — Atmos travels down that one lead. If your TV predates ARC, use the optical input.
Should I buy the 500MK2 or the 800MK2?
The HK$1,500 difference buys you real rears: the 500MK2's surround is bounced off your side walls, so it depends on having them; the 800MK2's surround comes from actual speakers behind you and doesn't care about your room shape. Irregular layouts and open-plan living rooms favour the 800MK2 clearly.
800MK2 or 1300MK2?
HK$5,300 apart. The 1300MK2 is 11.1.4: real up-firing drivers (true height channels), more power, bass to 33Hz. Standard-height ceilings and a flexible budget justify it; otherwise the 800MK2 is the sweet spot for most Hong Kong living rooms.
