Most entry-level 65-inch sets economise on the panel first. The BRAVIA 3 II does the opposite: Sony specifies a native 120Hz panel with HDMI 2.1 on all four inputs, and takes the saving in the backlight instead — a direct LED array with frame dimming rather than zoned local dimming.
Key features
Native 120Hz panel with HDMI 2.1 on every input
Sony lists the panel refresh rate as 120Hz and the motion system as Motionflow XR 480, explicitly noted as Native 120Hz — so the panel really does run at 120Hz and the 480 figure is the motion-processing number on top of it. All four HDMI inputs carry the HDMI 2.1 features Sony lists as 4K120, eARC, VRR, ALLM and SBTM. Unusually for this tier, both VRR and ALLM are enabled on all four inputs rather than a subset.
Direct LED backlight with frame dimming
Be clear on what this is: Sony specifies the backlight type as Direct LED and the backlight dimming type as Frame Dimming. That means the whole backlight brightens and dims together frame by frame, not in independent zones. Black-level performance in mixed-brightness scenes will not match the Mini LED or RGB LED sets in Sony's range, and that is the main thing separating this model from them.
XR Processor and Dolby Vision support
Despite sitting at the accessible end of the range, this model still runs the XR Processor for upscaling and contrast handling, and it decodes HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision. Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode are both listed, so a connected PlayStation 5 is recognised and the picture mode switches accordingly. The platform is Google TV running on Android TV.
Practical connections and sound
The four HDMI inputs are split two on the side and two on the bottom, which matters if you are wall-mounting close to the wall. Audio is a two-unit system: full-range drivers using Sony's bass-reflex and X-Balanced Speaker design, rated 20W in total. That covers news and casual viewing, and eARC is there for a soundbar.

Who it's for
- Gamers on a tight budget who want a genuinely native 120Hz panel with VRR and ALLM on all four HDMI inputs, not a 60Hz panel dressed up with a motion number.
- Bright living rooms and everyday viewing — free-to-air, streaming, sport — where absolute black level matters less than a clean, well-processed image.
- Anyone who wants Sony's Google TV experience and DTMB tuner in a 65-inch set at the accessible end of the range.
- Not for you if you watch a lot of dark films in a dim room. Frame dimming cannot hold deep blacks alongside bright highlights; the Mini LED BRAVIA 5 or the RGB LED models are the answer there.

Frequently asked questions
Does this model have local dimming?
No. Sony specifies Direct LED backlighting with Frame Dimming, which adjusts the entire backlight together rather than in independent zones. If zoned dimming is what you are after, the Mini LED and RGB LED models in Sony's range are the ones to look at.
Can it receive Hong Kong free-to-air channels on its own?
Yes. A DTMB digital terrestrial tuner covering UHF 21 to 69 is built in, so an aerial connection and a channel scan is all that is needed — no set-top box.
Is it suitable for a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X?
Yes. The panel is native 120Hz, and Sony lists 4K120, VRR and ALLM support on all four HDMI inputs, plus Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode for PS5. You can connect two consoles and still have inputs free for a soundbar or player.
