The Go 4 sold on the strength of being loud for its size and hard to kill. The Go 5 keeps both of those and adds the things that were missing: Bluetooth 6.0 with LC3, Auracast in place of the old pairing scheme, an ambient light ring, and lossless audio over the USB-C port. It still fits in a jacket pocket at 230 grams.

The Go 5 runs Bluetooth 6.0 and supports SBC, AAC and LC3. Multi-speaker linking is by Auracast, which is the Bluetooth SIG standard rather than a JBL-only scheme — so it links to any Auracast-enabled JBL speaker, including the Flip 7, Charge 6, Xtreme 5 and Boombox 4 already in the range. Older PartyBoost speakers will not join an Auracast group.
AirTouch stereo pairing
Knock two Go 5 speakers together and they pair as a left and right stereo pair. No app, no button sequence.
IP68 and drop-proof
Rated IP68 for dust and water, with a drop-proof build. JBL does not publish a drop height for the Go 5, unlike the Grip, so treat it as everyday knocks rather than a rated spec.
Lossless over USB-C, and a 7-band EQ
The USB-C port takes lossless audio from a phone or laptop as well as charge, and the JBL Portable app carries a 7-band EQ plus the light themes. One thing to know before you order: there is no USB cable in the box.

Who it's for
- Anyone who wants a speaker that lives in a bag permanently and does not mind rain, sand or a dropped drink.
- Owners of a Flip 7, Charge 6 or Xtreme 5 who want a second speaker that will link to it — Auracast to Auracast.
- Not for anyone replacing a PartyBoost-era JBL speaker and expecting the two to link. They will not.
- Not for filling a room. At 4.8 W this is a personal speaker; the Grip or Flip 7 is the step up.

Frequently asked questions
Will it pair with my older JBL speaker?
Only if that speaker supports Auracast. JBL's earlier PartyBoost and Connect+ speakers use different systems and will not join an Auracast group. Within the current range — Go 5, Grip, Flip 7, Charge 6, Xtreme 5, Boombox 4, Tuner 3 — linking works.
Is a charging cable included?
No. JBL ships the Go 5 without a USB cable. Any USB-C cable will do.
How long does it actually last?
Eight hours is JBL's figure with the light ring switched off, at moderate volume. Run the lights and push the volume and expect noticeably less. Playtime Boost adds up to two hours by limiting output.
