PC Accessories

An old M.2 SSD in a drawer, or a computer with dated Wi-Fi, doesn't mean buying a new machine. An SSD enclosure turns the drive into a portable disk, and a Wi-Fi 7 adapter or 2.5G adapter lets an older computer keep up with a new router. Every ASUS accessory here is Hong Kong licensed stock.

Choosing an SSD enclosure

  • 10 Gbps: ASUS Cobble and TUF Gaming A1, supporting NVMe and SATA SSDs, fine for everyday backups and carrying files.
  • 20 Gbps: TUF Gaming A2 over USB 3.2 Gen 2x2; your computer needs a matching USB-C port to reach full speed.
  • 40 Gbps: ProArt PA40SU with USB4, NVMe only, with a built-in smart fan for video editing and large files.

None of the enclosures include an SSD. Most take 2242, 2260 and 2280 lengths; the ProArt PA40SU takes 2230 and 2280. Real speed depends on the SSD and the computer's port, and SATA SSDs top out at about 6 Gbps.

Durability and uses

The TUF Gaming A1 and A2 are IP68 dust- and water-resistant and pass the MIL-STD-810H drop test, and ASUS lists them for PS5 and Xbox game storage. The Cobble is IP55 with an aluminium top cover that helps cooling, and the ProArt PA40SU has a four-level smart fan.

Wi-Fi 7 adapters

  • ROG USB-BE92: USB 3.0, tri-band BE6500, with two internal antennas.
  • USB-BE93 Mini: a compact USB-C adapter that stays out of the way on a laptop.
  • USB-BE92 Nano: a tiny USB 2.0 adapter; real speed is limited by the USB 2.0 port, so it suits light use on the newer bands.
  • PCE-BE92BT: a PCIe card with BE9400 Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.4; ASUS lists Windows 11, Intel 13th Gen or later processors and Intel motherboards only.

ASUS lists Windows 10 64-bit and Windows 11 for the USB adapters; the USB-BE93 Mini and USB-BE92 Nano need Windows 11 24H2 or later for full Wi-Fi 7 features.

2.5G wired networking

The USB-C2500 V2 turns a USB-C port into a 2.5G Ethernet port, and Cat5e cable is enough for 2.5G. Paired with a router or switch that has 2.5G ports, it moves large files to a NAS faster than a standard 1G port.

FAQ

Do the enclosures include an SSD?

No. They are enclosures only, so buy the SSD separately and check NVMe or SATA support and drive length first.

Do they work with a Mac?

The Cobble and TUF Gaming A1 support macOS Catalina or later and the ProArt PA40SU needs macOS 14.4 or later; ASUS lists only Windows for the Wi-Fi 7 USB adapters.

Is a Wi-Fi 7 adapter useful without a Wi-Fi 7 router?

It will connect to older routers, but only at the standard the router supports; 6 GHz and MLO need both the router and adapter to be Wi-Fi 7.
