Wi-Fi Routers & Mesh

Slow Wi-Fi at home is often not a broadband problem: the signal just doesn't reach the rooms. Whether you need a stronger router or a mesh system depends on the size and layout of your flat and the speed of your broadband plan. Every ASUS router, mesh system and network product here is Hong Kong licensed stock, from home Wi-Fi 7 mesh and gaming routers to business equipment for shops and offices.

One router or mesh

In a typical Hong Kong flat, a high-end router placed near the middle can cover most rooms. If the flat is large, has many rooms, or the router has to stay by the front door, consider mesh: several units form one network and hand you over automatically as you move. Official coverage figures (for example, about 3,000 sq ft for one ZenWiFi BT10 and about 8,000 sq ft for a BQ16 2-pack) are measured in ideal conditions, and flats with many concrete walls will see less.

What Wi-Fi 7 changes in practice

Wi-Fi 7 adds the 6 GHz band, channels up to 320 MHz, Multi-Link Operation (MLO) and 4096-QAM, keeping things steadier when many devices are online at once. Your phone or computer must support Wi-Fi 7 to use all of this; older devices still connect using their own standard. The tri-band and quad-band models (ZenWiFi BT10 and BQ16, ROG Rapture, GS-BE18000) include 6 GHz, while the GS-BE7200X, RT-BE88U and BD4 Outdoor are dual-band without 6 GHz.

Check the ports

If your broadband plan is faster than 1 Gbps, the router's WAN port must keep up. The ZenWiFi BT10 and BQ16, and the ROG Rapture GT-BE19000AI and GT-BE98, have 10G ports; the RT-BE88U adds a 10G SFP+ port to its 10G RJ45; the GS-BE18000 has one 2.5G WAN and seven 2.5G LAN ports, ideal for a NAS or several wired computers.

Gaming, outdoor and business

  • ROG Rapture GT-BE19000AI, GT-BE98, Strix GS-BE18000 and GS-BE7200X: gaming routers with game acceleration features; the Rapture models also have a dedicated gaming port.
  • ZenWiFi BD4 Outdoor: IP65 dust and water resistance and PoE+ power, to extend Wi-Fi to a balcony, rooftop or garden.
  • ExpertWiFi EBR63: a business Wi-Fi 6 router with multiple SSIDs, VLANs and a guest portal for small shops and offices.
  • ExpertWiFi EBG19P: a wired VPN router without Wi-Fi, with 8 PoE+ ports to power PoE cameras or access points directly.
  • QG-U1080: a plug-and-play switch with eight 2.5G ports and two 10G SFP+ ports; Cat5e cable is enough for 2.5G.

FAQ

Is a Wi-Fi 7 router useful if my phone isn’t Wi-Fi 7?

Yes. Older devices still connect and benefit from better coverage and stability with many devices; 6 GHz and MLO need Wi-Fi 7 devices.

Can a mesh system work with my older ASUS router?

Most ASUS models support AiMesh and can join other AiMesh-capable ASUS routers; check the official ASUS list for exact compatibility.

Do I need to set the router up myself?

Yes. ASUS routers are set up through the phone app or the web interface. If you are unsure about your broadband settings, WhatsApp us first.
