Start with the game and source
4K60 remains useful for many games. A 4K120 mode can show more frames only when the game and console/PC supply them; it is not a minimum requirement for every player. Higher PC refresh modes need a compatible GPU and supported input. Native refresh, fixed input modes and VRR ceilings are different specifications.
Check the whole HDMI route
Confirm the source output, TV input/port, cable and any receiver or Sound Bar between them. An HDMI 2.1 label does not guarantee 4K120, VRR, ALLM or every HDR mode on every port. ARC/eARC also occupies a connection when returning TV audio; it is not a guarantee of video passthrough bandwidth.
VRR synchronises supported refresh with frame delivery within a stated range; it does not remove every hitch caused by the game or source. ALLM requests a low-latency mode when supported by the source and TV settings. Check them separately rather than infer them from the brand or model year.
Input lag, pixel response and HDR
Input lag concerns display-processing delay; pixel response concerns transitions between pixel levels. Fast OLED response can reduce transition smearing but does not eliminate source blur or sample-and-hold blur. Compare measured lag only at the same resolution, frame rate, mode and method.
For HDR games, compare tone mapping, highlights, dark detail and room reflections on the exact model. OLED self-emission and Mini LED dimming have different strengths, but neither is universally the better bright-room or competitive-gaming choice. Follow panel-care guidance for long static HUDs.
