A car that won't start after sitting for a few days, a camping trip that needs power for phones and lights, a power cut you want to ride out for a few hours: that's what this page is for. It has Shell and Energizer jump starters, tyre inflators and portable power stations, all Hong Kong licensed.

Jump starters: start a flat car yourself

A jump starter is a compact battery that clamps onto your car battery to start the engine. Look at two things: starting current and the engine size it supports. All models here are for 12V cars and are rated for petrol engines up to 6.0 to 8.0 litres and diesel engines up to 2.0 to 3.5 litres; for a larger engine, choose a model with more current and capacity.

Jump starters: Shell SJP011 (10000mAh), SJP014 (10000mAh), SJP012 (16000mAh) and SJP013 (20000mAh). All have USB outputs for charging a phone; the SJP011, SJP012 and SJP013 also have an LED light with SOS mode.
Jump starter plus inflator: the Energizer JE10000JP and Shell SL-AC003JP can start a car, inflate tyres and charge a phone; the SL-AC003JP has a three-mode LED light (normal, strobe, SOS).
Tyre inflator: the Energizer PAC5200 reaches 150 PSI and has a built-in 2600mAh battery that can also charge a phone.

Before inflating, check the recommended tyre pressure on the door frame or in the owner's manual. Check the polarity before connecting the clamps and follow the manual. Lithium batteries don't like heat, so don't leave them in a car parked in strong sun for long, and check the charge every few months, topping up when needed.

Power stations: camping, outdoor shoots and power cuts

A power station is a large battery with AC sockets, so you can plug in ordinary appliances. Two numbers matter: capacity (Wh) decides how long it lasts, and output (W) decides what it can run. An appliance's wattage must be below the rated output. For a rough runtime, multiply the capacity by 0.8 to allow for conversion losses, then divide by the appliance's wattage.

Energizer PPS320: 307.2Wh lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery, 300W AC output (600W peak) with a UK socket, plus USB-C PD 60W and 12V outputs; about 4.1kg, with car and mains chargers.
Shell MP1000: 999.2Wh, 1000W AC output, plus USB-C PD 60W, QC3.0 USB, a car-lighter socket and 10W wireless charging.

For example, a 60W projector would run for roughly four hours on the PPS320 (307 × 0.8 ÷ 60 ≈ 4.1). Heating appliances such as hair dryers and kettles draw a lot of power and often exceed the output limit, so check the rating plate first.

Flights and delivery

Under International Air Transport Association (IATA) guidance, lithium batteries over 160Wh can't travel as passenger baggage, so neither power station here can go on a plane. FAQ

What's the difference between a jump starter and a power bank?

A jump starter has clamps and enough starting current to crank a car engine. An ordinary power bank can't do that.

Can a jump starter charge my phone?

Yes, every jump starter here has a USB output. Recharge it fully afterwards before putting it back in the car, so it has enough power when you need to start the engine.
