At its First Look event around CES in January 2025, Samsung introduced its Vision AI display direction. This recap explains the buyer-facing themes; announced capabilities vary by model, region and service.
Vision AI and the connected TV
Vision AI describes Samsung's approach to using AI for picture, sound and connected experiences. When comparing models, check which processing, personalisation and accessibility functions the exact SKU supports rather than assuming a universal feature bundle.
SmartThings and voice control
A compatible SmartThings setup can connect the TV with supported home devices. Check the appliance, hub, network and account requirements. Voice assistants, languages and accessibility tools vary by model and territory; confirm the service you intend to use in Hong Kong.
8K QLED: source detail still matters
An 8K UHD image has 7,680 × 4,320 pixels, about 33 million. More pixels can be useful on a large screen at a suitable distance, but source resolution, compression and picture processing also matter. Quantum dots relate to colour reproduction; they do not guarantee that one model outperforms every other display.
AI upscaling estimates detail from a lower-resolution source. It does not turn that source into a native 8K recording or restore information that was never captured.
Connected-home uses and limits
Kitchen and energy features
Recipe, appliance-status and energy functions depend on compatible appliances and supported services. Check the actual operation you want, the account territory and any permissions before buying into an ecosystem. Automation does not guarantee an energy saving in every household.
Monitoring is not hazard protection
Camera views and notifications need compatible devices and a working connection. An alert is not a fire alarm, electrical safety system or automatic hazard repair. Keep appropriate safety equipment and seek qualified help for electrical or fire concerns.
Before choosing a TV
Compare the full model code, room lighting, viewing distance, actual content and connected devices. Treat CES announcements as an introduction to the technology, not a guarantee of future-proofing or current local availability.
