If you are searching for a "Micro LED TV", there is a good chance what you actually want is Mini LED.
The names are one letter apart, but they are completely different technologies — and their availability in Hong Kong could hardly be further apart. This guide sorts that out first, then explains what Micro LED actually is.

In one line: Micro LED means the pixels light themselves. Mini LED means an LCD with a better backlight. Similar names, completely different principles.
What Micro LED is
Micro LED uses micron-scale inorganic LEDs as the light source for every pixel. Like OLED it is self-emissive, but it uses inorganic materials — usually gallium nitride (GaN).
Three defining characteristics
- Self-emissive — every pixel makes its own light, with no backlight
- Extremely small pixels — measured in microns, allowing very high pixel density
- Inorganic materials — far more stable than OLED's organic compounds, and much slower to degrade
What Micro LED does well
Brightness and contrast
Micro LED can go brighter than OLED, and because each pixel switches off completely it also reaches pixel-level black. That combination is the most desirable in display technology today.
Lifespan and stability
Inorganic materials resist ageing well and the burn-in risk is very low. The figure the industry commonly cites is 100,000 hours or more.
Modularity
Micro LED can be built from tiles, so in principle any size or aspect ratio is possible — something no other technology offers.
Where Micro LED is used today
Commercial and installation-grade displays
Samsung's The Wall is the best-known Micro LED product. To be clear though: The Wall is a commercial and installation-grade product, used in showrooms, corporate lobbies and high-end screening rooms. It is not a television you buy in a shop.
Wearables, AR and VR
High pixel density plus low power consumption makes Micro LED a major research focus for smartwatches, AR glasses and VR headsets.
Signage and automotive
Brightness and durability suit outdoor advertising walls and digital signage, as well as car instrument clusters and head-up displays.
Why you cannot buy a Micro LED television
Manufacturing cost
The hardest step is transferring and aligning millions of microscopic LEDs onto the substrate accurately — what the industry calls mass transfer. The yield and cost of that process put Micro LED several tiers above OLED and LCD in price.
Production difficulty
A single 4K panel needs more than 24 million LEDs placed (3840 × 2160 × 3 colours). Any faulty one has to be repaired. Yield control remains the principal bottleneck.
The competition is already strong
OLED and Mini LED are mature, in volume production, and have come down in price. For Micro LED to reach the mainstream it must be not only better but cheaper — and that is still some way off.

Micro RGB: Samsung's 2026 answer
At CES 2026 Samsung introduced the world's first 130-inch Micro RGB television, officially rated at 100% of the BT.2020 colour gamut, certified by VDE in Germany, with 100, 85, 75, 65 and 55 inch versions alongside it.
Micro RGB is not Micro LED — it uses micro red, green and blue light sources to control colour directly, and remains a backlit architecture. Think of it as the route Samsung is taking while Micro LED is still out of reach.
