Start with a question that is not about televisions
Is there a wall in your flat — unbroken, no window, no door — where a television can simply go?
If you have a suitable TV wall, compare a Neo QLED or OLED at the same current price. The Serif's main reason to choose it is freestanding placement and its finished back; picture quality still depends on the exact alternatives.
But if your flat is open-plan, glazed on several sides, and the only place a television can go is mid-room or beside a window — then The Serif is one of very few sets that actually solves that problem. This piece is about exactly that: what it solves, what it costs you, and whether it physically fits a Hong Kong flat.
What The Serif actually is
The Serif was designed by the French designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec. Seen from the side the body forms an "I" — a flat ledge top and bottom, which is where the name comes from (the serif of a typeface). Use the supplied stand according to the manual; keep ventilation clear and avoid plants, water or extra loads on the television.
What matters most is that the back is finished as carefully as the front. An ordinary television, the moment it leaves the wall, shows vents, screw bosses and a bundle of cables. The Serif does not — so it can sit at an angle, side-on, or act as a half-divider. That is its one genuine selling point.
The 2024 LS01D specification lists Matte Display and a 40W four-channel speaker system. These are listed features, not a claim that this generation introduced them for the first time; power does not establish listening quality.
Before anything else: how big this thing is
This section comes early because in Hong Kong, whether it fits decides the purchase more often than picture quality does. Official dimensions and weights with the stand:

Look at the 65-inch row: 1.36 metres tall with the stand, nearly half a metre deep, 37.8 kg. Those are furniture dimensions, not television dimensions. Measure the floor before you order — especially the depth, because half a metre standing in the middle of a living room feels nothing like a set flat against a wall.
Wall mounting: this set is not designed for it
The reference sheet lists VESA as N/A for the three sizes. Treat the supplied freestanding setup as the intended reference; do not improvise wall mounting. Check the complete model's installation manual and manufacturer-approved mounting options.
Which is consistent enough — the premium you pay is for a set finished on every face so it can stand away from the wall. Mount it and nobody sees the back, so you have bought something you are not using. If the television will definitely go flat against a wall, this is the wrong set from the outset.

The 43-inch is not the same specification
If you are looking at the 43-inch, note that it differs from the two larger sizes in more than diagonal:

For 43 inches, confirm the input modes needed for your games. A 50Hz native panel or N/A row alone does not rule out casual gaming; high-frame-rate modes and VRR need exact-SKU confirmation.
Picture and sound, honestly
Picture — the QLED panel with Quantum HDR is bright and colourful, and entirely at home with drama, variety shows and streaming. What it lacks is Mini LED local dimming, so in dark films the black level lifts towards grey and the contrast punch falls short of a same-price Neo QLED. That is a consequence of the design brief, not a fault.
Matte Display — this genuinely earns its place in Hong Kong. Floor-to-ceiling glass, west-facing afternoons and ceiling downlights turn an ordinary glossy panel into a mirror. The matte finish does not remove reflection, but it diffuses windows and lights instead of showing you a sharp image of yourself. If you currently draw the curtains to watch anything before sunset, you will notice immediately.
Sound: the quoted specification is 40W with four channels. This is not a listening verdict. If adding a Sound Bar, check eARC, supported formats and Q-Symphony compatibility for both devices; N/A alone does not prove the television speakers must switch off.
Gaming
On the 55 and 65-inch, all four HDMI ports run 4K 120Hz, with VRR, ALLM and FreeSync Premium — a PS5 or Xbox Series X is fully fed. For a design-led television that is a generous specification.
But gaming is not what it is selling. If gaming is your main use, a dozen hours a week, the same money in a Neo QLED or OLED goes much further. If gaming is one use among several, The Serif handles it without complaint.
What the premium actually costs you

Read the first row again: the price of a 55-inch Serif buys a 65-inch OLED.
We say so plainly because the buyer willing to pay this premium already knows what they are buying — placement freedom and how the whole room reads, not picture quality per dollar. Who should not buy it
- You want maximum picture on a fixed budget — Neo QLED or OLED sits a clear tier above at the same price
- The set will definitely go against or on a wall — VESA is listed N/A, and mounting wastes the design you paid for
- You want larger than 65 inches — The Serif stops there
- Your interior is dark or industrial — the Cloud White body will fight the room
- Adding a Sound Bar: confirm connection and speaker-synchronisation compatibility before paying for built-in audio

The floor stand needs assembly and stability checks according to the exact manual. Arrange adequate help or professional installation; the quoted 65-inch stand-and-TV weight is 37.8kg. Tell us about stairs or narrow corridors before requesting a delivery and installation quote.

Can The Serif be wall-mounted?
The reference sheet lists VESA as N/A. Use the complete model's installation manual and approved accessories; do not infer a safe wall-mount method from the table. If wall mounting is essential, compare a model with clearly documented mounting support.
How does the 43-inch differ from the 55 and 65-inch?
Sizes can differ in native refresh, accepted HDMI modes and VRR. N/A means the page does not settle support, not that 43 inches cannot be used for games; confirm the complete size and regional model.
Does The Serif have a better picture than same-price televisions?
The Serif prioritises freestanding design and placement flexibility. The listed reference prices are HK$10,980 for the 55-inch Serif and HK$10,980 for the 65-inch S90F OLED: different sizes and panel designs, not a measured same-size picture-quality test. Will adding a Samsung soundbar improve it?
A Sound Bar may improve dialogue or bass depending on the model and room. Confirm the intended connection and speaker-synchronisation mode; an N/A row does not establish Q-Symphony incompatibility.
Will it pick up Hong Kong free-to-air channels from an aerial?
Hong Kong terrestrial broadcasts use DTMB. For aerial viewing, confirm the complete supplied SKU and reception evidence matching firmware and signal conditions before ordering. A set-top box or streaming is a separate route; tuner is not necessarily the only regional difference.
