When buying a large TV, it is easy to focus on whether it fits the living room and overlook how it will get there from street level.
Whether a 75, 85 or 98-inch TV can reach your flat depends on the exact model's carton width, height and depth, plus the clear space along the entire delivery route. Screen size, doorway width or a lift diagonal alone cannot confirm that it will fit.
Measure the route before ordering, then send the dimensions and photos to the delivery team for assessment. For a 98-inch TV in particular, do not wait until it arrives downstairs to find out.
Screen size is not the same as carton size
“75 inches” describes the screen diagonal. It is not the TV's width or the size of its packaging.
The figures below are approximate visible-screen dimensions calculated for a 16:9 aspect ratio. They exclude the bezel, stand, carton and protective packing, so they cannot determine whether a TV will fit into a lift.
| Advertised screen size | Approximate screen width | Approximate screen height |
|---|---|---|
| 75 inches | 166.0 cm | 93.4 cm |
| 85 inches | 188.2 cm | 105.8 cm |
| 98 inches | 217.0 cm | 122.0 cm |
The calculation converts inches to centimetres using 2.54, then applies the 16:9 ratio. Figures are rounded to one decimal place; these are not measurements of a specific model.
Before placing an order, ask the retailer for the full model code, carton width × height × depth and packed weight. Packaging can differ even between two 85-inch TVs. A specification labelled “dimensions without stand” is not a shipping dimension.
Delivery-access checklist: seven places to check
Measure the clear opening that the carton can actually pass through, not the outside of the door frame. Allow for handrails, door handles, fire hose reels, protruding cabinets and thresholds.
| Location | What to measure or confirm | Commonly overlooked obstacles |
|---|---|---|
| Building entrance and lift lobby | Narrowest passage; clear door width and height | Automatic doors may not open fully; there may be steps before the lift |
| Lift doors | Clear width and height with the doors fully open | The outer frame can be wider than the actual opening |
| Lift interior | Clear internal width, depth and height; load limit | Handrails take up space, and the delivery team also needs room |
| Corridor outside the lift | Narrowest width, ceiling height and turning space | The carton may fit inside the lift but face an immediate 90-degree turn on exit |
| Staircase and landings | Clear stair width; landing width and depth; lowest overhead clearance | Handrails and the underside of the next flight can restrict turning |
| Flat entrance | Clear width and height; space on both sides of the door | The door leaf, shoe cabinet or security gate may obstruct the turn |
| Route from the entrance to the living room | Internal doors, passages, corners and unpacking space | Passing the front door does not guarantee clearance through the entrance corridor |
For each difficult section, take one photo showing the whole area and another showing the tape-measure reading. If there are corners, a short video from the lift to your front door is useful. A photo of the lift doors alone does not show the full route.
Why is a long enough lift diagonal not a guarantee?
A carton is a three-dimensional object, not a thin line. It must pass through the lift doors, be positioned safely inside, and come back out at the destination floor.
Consider this hypothetical example, not a customer case.
You measure a diagonal inside the lift that is longer than the carton, but you have not checked the door height or the space needed to turn the carton through the opening. That is a reason to assess the route further, not confirmation that delivery will work.
Equally, a doorway narrower than the carton's width is not enough on its own to rule the route out. Orientation, carton depth and turning space all matter. The delivery team must confirm whether and how the carton can be moved, using the manufacturer's handling instructions and the actual site conditions. Do not try to force it through yourself.
If the carton will not fit in the lift, can it be unpacked or carried upstairs?
Removing the carton is not automatically a safe solution. The screen loses protection, and the handling position, support points and number of people required must follow the exact model's installation instructions.
For example, Sony's Japanese X90L assembly guide specifies at least three people for assembling or carrying the 85-inch XRJ-85X90L, and at least two for the other sizes listed. This is not a universal rule for every 85-inch TV; it shows why staffing should not be guessed from screen size alone. Sony X90L assembly and handling guide (Japanese)
For a walk-up building or any route involving stairs, assess the landings, overhead clearance and corners first. A per-floor stair charge does not mean every staircase is safe for delivery. Do not lay the TV flat, put pressure on the screen to squeeze it through, or attempt window hoisting yourself. Confirm a suitable plan with the delivery team.
How much does Elechid charge for 75, 85 and 98-inch TV delivery and installation?
The following published charges were checked on 6 October 2026. All amounts are in Hong Kong dollars.
| TV size | Delivery + tabletop installation | Delivery + wall mounting |
|---|---|---|
| 75 inches | HK$600 | HK$1,200 |
| 85 inches | HK$800 | HK$1,500 |
| 98 inches | HK$1,500 | HK$2,000 |
Wall-mounting charges include the bracket, but exclude cable routing and tidying. Stairs cost an additional HK$100 per floor. Discovery Bay carries an additional HK$500 charge; Ma Wan has no location surcharge. For Cheung Chau and Lamma Island, delivery is to Central Pier for collection, with no installation service.
For example, a 75-inch TV with tabletop installation and three floors of stair carrying costs HK$600 + HK$300 = HK$900 under the published rates, provided the route has been confirmed safe. This is a pricing example, not an access guarantee for any building.

Send us this checklist before ordering
If you have not chosen a model, start with your preferred screen size. Once you have selected one, its actual packaging must be checked. You can fill in the following details:
- Full TV model code / preferred size:
- Does the building have a lift? Are there steps before or after it?
- Lift-door clear width × height, in cm:
- Lift-interior clear width × depth × height, in cm:
- Lift load limit:
- Narrowest corridor and turning space after leaving the lift:
- Flat-entrance clear width × height, in cm:
- If stairs are required: number of floors, clear stair width, landing width × depth and lowest overhead clearance:
- Any shoe cabinets, narrow passages or further corners inside the flat:
- Tabletop installation or wall mounting; available unpacking space:
- Photos of the entrance, lift interior, corners and flat entrance / a route video:

Frequently asked questions
Most 75-inch TVs fit in a lift. Can I skip measuring?
No. Cartons and buildings vary, even at the same screen size. Older lifts, tight lobbies and immediate turns outside the lift need particular attention.
If the carton and opening have exactly the same dimensions, will it fit?
Do not treat that as confirmed clearance. Measurement error, handles, protruding packing and the team's support positions can affect passage. There is no universal “leave this many centimetres and it will definitely fit” rule.
An 85-inch TV was delivered before. Does that mean a 98-inch one will fit?
No. Recheck the exact 98-inch model's carton, weight and full route. Previous delivery experience is not a substitute for measurements.
If it fits the living room, can I go ahead and buy it?
You still need to confirm the delivery route, installation position and support requirements. For choosing a screen size, see TV sizes for Hong Kong living rooms at 2 m, 2.5 m and 3 m. Comfortable viewing and successful delivery are separate checks.
