"How many inches should I get?" is the question we answer most often. There is a formula — but in Hong Kong two other things matter just as much: your lift, and a bias almost everyone gets wrong.
Step one: measure from where you sit
No need for centimetre precision; pacing it out is fine. Measure from the seat you actually use to the wall the TV will go on — not the length of the room.
Step two: divide by 1.6
For a 4K TV, the suggested size is roughly viewing distance (cm) ÷ 1.6. Sitting 2.5 m away: 250 ÷ 1.6 ≈ 156, which lands around 65 inches.
Or just read the table:
- 1.5 – 2.0 m (usually a bedroom) → 43 – 50 inches
- 2.0 – 2.5 m → 55 – 65 inches
- 2.5 – 3.0 m → 65 – 75 inches
- 3.0 – 3.5 m → 75 – 85 inches
- 3.5 m and beyond → 85 – 98 inches

⚠ Why people regret going too small
"Will it be too big?" is the standard worry, and it usually runs the wrong way. Two reasons.
First, 4K resolution means sitting close no longer shows pixels. The "do not go too big" habit came from the 1080P era, where sitting close revealed the grid. That constraint is gone.
Second, a showroom is nothing like your living room. High ceilings, open space and other large screens alongside make any TV look a size smaller. Mounted at home, the same set suddenly fits perfectly.
So our honest advice: when torn between two sizes, take the larger one.
Step three: check your lift and doorway
This step is a Hong Kong speciality and the one most often skipped. A TV is a rigid panel — if it does not fit the lift, it goes up the stairs, and if it will not go up the stairs, it does not go up at all.
Three measurements:
- Lift door width and the car's diagonal — large sets usually go in at an angle, so the diagonal is the number that decides
- Your front door width — include the carton, which is several centimetres wider than the TV
- Corridor corners — long hallways with turns are where panels get stuck

Different uses, different sizing
Mainly films
Go to the top of the range, or one size beyond. Immersion tracks directly with how much of your field of view the screen fills; for films, bigger is not a mistake.
Gaming
Sitting close, do not overdo it — a screen so large you must turn your head to see the corners works against you. Follow the formula as written.
News and background viewing
You can be conservative; the lower end of the range is plenty.
Bedrooms
Short distances make 43 to 50 inches the sensible band — which is also the best value band.
Size and price are not linear
Stepping from 55 to 65 inches usually costs less than stepping from 85 to 98. The middle sizes (55 to 75 inches) are the most competitive, with the widest choice and the best value.

FAQ
Is 65 inches too big at 2 metres?
No. Two metres maps to 55 – 65 inches; 65 sits at the top of that band and works well, especially for films.
How much bigger is 75 than 65?
About a third more screen area — not ten or twenty percent. They look similar in a showroom and clearly different at home.
Does wall mounting change the sizing?
Slightly. Wall mounting removes the depth of a cabinet, which effectively moves you further back — often enough to justify one size up. On a cabinet, check the top surface is wide enough.
What if a 75-inch will not fit the lift?
