"How many inches should I get?" is a common question. Viewing distance gives a rough starting point, but room fit, content, comfort and safe delivery access matter too.
Step one: measure from where you sit
No need for centimetre precision; pacing it out is fine. Measure from the seat you actually use to the wall the TV will go on — not the length of the room.
Step two: divide by 1.6
A rough starting rule is viewing distance(cm)÷1.6=screen diagonal(cm), then÷2.54 for inches. At2.5m:250÷1.6=156.25 cm, or about 61.5 inches. Compare nearby standard sizes such as55 and 65 by content, comfort and room fit; this is not a compulsory size.
The following ranges are rough comfort options, not exact outputs of the formula. Compare neighbouring sizes using your content and room.
- 1.5 – 2.0 m (usually a bedroom) → 43 – 50 inches
- 2.0 – 2.5 m → 55 – 65 inches
- 2.5 – 3.0 m → 65 – 75 inches
- 3.0 – 3.5 m → 75 – 85 inches
- 3.5 m and beyond → 85 – 98 inches

Choosing between neighbouring sizes
"Will it be too big?" depends on your preferences and room. Consider these two points.
4K can make a larger screen comfortable at shorter distances, but pixel visibility still depends on eyesight, content and distance. More inches are not automatically better.
Second, a showroom's open space and surrounding screens can change your sense of scale. Check the proposed TV's actual dimensions in your room rather than treating showroom appearance as proof it will fit.
When between sizes, consider films versus games, subtitle comfort, full TV dimensions and budget. Choose larger only if it fits your preferences and room.
Step three: check your lift and doorway
This step is a Hong Kong speciality and the one most often skipped. A TV is a rigid panel — if it does not fit the lift, it goes up the stairs, and if it will not go up the stairs, it does not go up at all.
Three measurements:
- Lift door and car width, height and depth, with the full carton's three dimensions and turning space; diagonal alone cannot confirm access
- Your front door width — include the carton, which is several centimetres wider than the TV
- Corridor corners — long hallways with turns are where panels get stuck

Different uses, different sizing
Mainly films
For films, a larger screen can feel more immersive, but viewing comfort and room fit still matter. Compare nearby sizes instead of assuming larger is always better.
Gaming
For close-up gaming, check whether you can comfortably take in the whole screen and read the interface. Use the distance rule as a starting point, not a required size.
News and background viewing
You can be conservative; the lower end of the range is plenty.
Bedrooms
Shorter bedroom distances may suit43–50 inches; confirm text comfort, full TV dimensions and placement rather than assuming that size band is always the best value.
Size and price are not linear
Price does not increase in direct proportion to diagonal size. Compare dated quotes for neighbouring sizes in the same series; a 55-to65-inch step and an85-to98-inch step can have very different costs.

FAQ
Is 65 inches too big at 2 metres?
At 2 metres, the rough distance rule gives about 49 inches, but a 65-inch screen can suit viewers who prefer a more immersive image. Compare comfort, subtitles, content and room fit; 65 inches is not automatically right or wrong at that distance.
How much bigger is 75 than 65?
About a third more screen area — not ten or twenty percent. They look similar in a showroom and clearly different at home.
Does wall mounting change the sizing?
Measure from your normal seated eye position to the final screen position. Wall mounting can change that distance, but does not automatically justify the next size up. A cabinet setup needs enough surface area, load capacity and safe support for the actual stand.
What if a 75-inch will not fit the lift?
Delivery by stairs is subject to full carton dimensions, turns, clearances, staffing and safety confirmation. Send details before ordering; the lift photo alone does not guarantee delivery.
