Let us get this out of the way: it is not 4K
The Samsung Q5F 40-inch is Full HD (1920 × 1080), not 4K. That goes in the first paragraph because you were going to ask, and it is better said here than discovered halfway down a specification table.
What follows is the part that matters: at 40 inches, this matters far less than you would think — and there is simple arithmetic that shows why.
When you can actually see the difference
The human eye resolves detail down to roughly one arcminute. Combine that with a screen's pixel pitch and you can calculate the distance beyond which individual pixels stop being resolvable.
A 40-inch 16:9 screen is 0.498 m tall. Divided by 1080 lines, each pixel is 0.461 mm across. Which gives:

The 1.59m figure is a theoretical pixel-visibility estimate assuming roughly one-arcminute acuity. It is not a guarantee that Full HD and 4K look identical: eyesight, content, scaling, contrast and motion also affect the picture.

But in fairness: a 43-inch 4K set costs less

Yes — a 43-inch 4K set costs less than this 40-inch Full HD one. You would see it the moment you opened the 43-inch collection, so we would rather say it first.
So why would anyone buy the 40-inch? The answer is not picture quality. It is the size itself.
What 40 inches is actually for: the spaces 43 will not fit
The Q5F 40-inch body is 906.3 mm wide; a typical 43-inch is around 958 mm. Five centimetres — which sounds trivial until it is the difference between fitting and not:
- A fitted cabinet recess — built-in joinery with a width you cannot change
- A narrow wall or the gap between columns — where you also need clearance for an air-conditioning duct or a door frame
- A kitchen counter, breakfast bar or small office — where both width and depth are tight
- A rental where you would rather not drill — 157.6 mm deep with the stand, so it sits on shelves that a larger set will not
The reference stand footprint is 646.7 × 157.6 mm, while the full body is 906.3 mm wide. Check both the entire TV's width, height and depth and the stand footprint, cabinet load capacity, stability and ventilation; stand width alone is not a safe fit test.
Quoted weight is 6.2kg with the stand and VESA is 200 × 200. Follow the exact model's handling and installation manual, arrange adequate help and use a qualified installer for wall mounting.
Two HDMI ports — count them before you order
The Q5F 40-inch has only two HDMI ports, one supporting eARC. This is the most real limitation in the set, so add up what you need to connect:
- Add a soundbar and the eARC port is taken, leaving one
- Add a set-top box and both are gone
- Add a console or a laptop and you are swapping cables or buying an HDMI switch
If your list runs past two devices, either choose a model with three or four ports, or budget for a switch. This is arithmetic to do before ordering, not after.
Picture and sound
Picture — the QLED quantum dot panel with PurColor is a stated feature, not evidence of a measured colour advantage over another model, with Mega Contrast and Micro Dimming Pro handling contrast, plus Quantum HDR and HDR10+ support. The panel is 50Hz: fine for drama and streaming, check input modes for casual gaming; do not assume it meets high-refresh needs.
Sound — the reference lists 20W two-channel audio, OTS Lite and Adaptive Sound. Suitability depends on listening distance, room noise and your needs. Q-Symphony requires a confirmed compatible Samsung TV and Sound Bar pairing; the listed power or price does not establish sound quality.
One UI Tizen includes Samsung Knox. Check the exact model and region's OS-update pledge and start year: OS upgrades do not guarantee that third-party apps, subscriptions or services remain available for seven years.

On that 41W figure: at four hours a day it works out to roughly 5 kWh a month, or under ten Hong Kong dollars of electricity. Running cost is effectively a non-issue.
Who should not buy it
- For a main living-room TV, choose by actual viewing distance, content and preferred image size; 40 inches is not automatically too small for every room.
- High-refresh gamers — confirm full-SKU input modes and count your HDMI devices before choosing.
- Anyone with several devices — two ports go quickly
- Anyone whose space fits 43 inches — measure first, because if 43 fits, the same money or less buys 4K and a bigger screen

The 40-inch earns its place on dimensions, not picture: its body is 906.3 mm wide, about 5 cm narrower than a 43-inch, and in a fitted cabinet, a narrow wall or on a kitchen counter those 5 cm decide whether it fits at all.
Are two HDMI ports enough?
Count your devices. A soundbar takes the eARC port, leaving one; a set-top box takes the second. Adding a console or a laptop after that means swapping cables or buying an HDMI switch. If your list runs past two devices, choose a model with three or four ports.
What is worth knowing at this price?

Will it pick up Hong Kong free-to-air channels from an aerial?
