Samsung 55-inch OLED S90F 4K Samsung Vision AI Smart TV (2025, International Version)

The S90F is Samsung's mainstream OLED for 2025, and 55 inches is its smallest mainstream size — also the one Hong Kong buys most. Self-emissive pixels deliver true black, all four HDMI 2.1 ports run 4K 144Hz, 40W 2.1-channel sound carries Dolby Atmos, and it runs Tizen with Samsung Vision AI. At 1,225 mm wide it fits a bedroom, a small living room or a study.

55 inches suits a viewing distance of roughly 1.7 to 2.3 metres. Further back than 2.3 m and the 65 will sit better — more on that below.

Specifications

True OLED picture

Each of the S90F's 8.29 million pixels emits its own light and can switch off completely. A pixel showing black is actually off — absolute black, with no halo around bright objects. No LED, QLED or Mini LED set can do this, because they push a backlight through the panel and some of it always leaks into dark areas.

Where you notice it: starfields, night scenes, letterbox bars, dim interiors. For lights-off film watching, this remains the single biggest picture upgrade money buys. The 55's advantage is that you sit closer — at around 1.7 m, pixel-level contrast is at its most visible.

OLED HDR+ and HDR10+ — no Dolby Vision

The S90F supports OLED HDR+ and HDR10+ (Adaptive and Gaming), adjusting brightness and colour scene by scene. ⚠ As with every Samsung TV, the S90F does not support Dolby Vision. Titles flagged Dolby Vision on Netflix or Disney+ play in HDR10 or HDR10+ — they play, just in another format. For streaming only, the difference is small; it matters mainly if you buy 4K Blu-ray discs or use an Apple TV 4K box.

NQ4 AI Gen3 processor

The NQ4 AI Gen3 runs multiple neural networks frame by frame, rebuilding detail in lower-resolution material. This matters more in Hong Kong than the spec sheet suggests: free-to-air digital terrestrial is 1080i, not 4K, and streaming is compressed. Most of what you actually watch is not native 4K — so upscaling quality shapes the picture you see more often than panel specs do.

Gaming: all four HDMI ports at 4K 144Hz

OLED's near-instant pixel response means essentially no motion smearing. On top of that: Motion Xcelerator reaches 144Hz over HDMI 2.1 in Game Mode, VRR and FreeSync Premium Pro, ALLM auto low-latency, Game Bar for live frame-rate and latency readouts, and Super Ultra Wide Game View at 21:9 and 32:9.

⚠ All four HDMI inputs are full HDMI 2.1 — a PS5, an Xbox Series X, a gaming PC and a soundbar can all stay connected without swapping cables. Many sets at this price have only one or two. More high-refresh options in gaming TVs.

Sound: 40W, Dolby Atmos and Q-Symphony

40W in 2.1 channels, with Dolby Atmos and Object Tracking Sound Lite. If you are paying this much for the picture, budget for a soundbar as well — and the S90F's Q-Symphony is the reason: connect a compatible Samsung soundbar and it does not mute the TV speakers, it plays them together. Tizen, Samsung Vision AI and SmartThings

The interface is quick and uncluttered, with the streaming services Hong Kong uses — Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, Apple TV+, Prime Video — plus Samsung TV Plus free live channels. Voice control via Bixby. SmartThings lets the TV act as a smart-home hub, and phones, tablets and laptops can cast to it. The bundled SolarCell Remote never needs batteries.

LaserSlim design

OLED needs no backlight layer, so the S90F is very thin — 39.9 mm — with a four-side bezel-less frame that all but disappears when the screen is on. The 55 is 1,225 mm wide and 16 kg bare; it wall-mounts on VESA 300 × 200 and one person can handle it.

International version: warranty and channel reception, plainly

This is an international version (Thai model QA55S90FAKXXT) — not Hong Kong licensed stock, so the warranty comes from us, not Samsung Hong Kong: 10-day faulty exchange plus 3 years of on-site warranty (on-site labour free; parts quoted for your approval first). ⚠ On an OLED, "on-site" is the part that matters — the technician comes to you rather than the panel leaving your home.

On reception, plainly: the international spec sheet lists DVB-T2, which differs from Hong Kong's DTMB, so our technician tests aerial reception during installation. If your building's aerial signal is already weak, WhatsApp us before ordering. Set-top boxes, Netflix and YouTube are unaffected.

Delivery and installation

Delivery within Hong Kong. Installation is a paid service — 55-inch tabletop and wall-mount rates and walk-up building arrangements are in the FAQ. Wall mounting uses VESA 300 × 200. The Kwun Tong showroom holds stock for viewing by appointment; it is a stockroom, not a demo room.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 55-inch S90F really 144Hz?

Samsung's spec sheet lists the panel at 100Hz; Motion Xcelerator reaches 144Hz over HDMI 2.1 in Game Mode. All four HDMI inputs support 4K 144Hz and eARC, so there is no "right port" to find.

Does it support Dolby Vision?

No. Like every Samsung TV it uses HDR10+ and OLED HDR+. For streaming the difference is small; it matters mainly for 4K Blu-ray or Apple TV 4K users.

What separates the S90F from the S85F?

Does 55 inches suit a Hong Kong flat?

At a viewing distance of roughly 1.7 to 2.3 m, yes — the most common bedroom and small-living-room distances. Beyond 2.3 m, consider the 65.

Will OLED burn in?

Normal film, sport and gaming use is not a concern. Long periods of a fixed static image — a news channel logo left on for hours, or use as a PC monitor — carry more risk. The S90F has pixel shift and screen-protection features.
