TCL 85-Inch P7L Premium QLED 4K Google TV

The 85-inch P7L is the only size in the series with TCL's ONKYO 2.1 Hi-Fi system and a rear bass unit; every smaller P7L uses 2.0 speakers. Otherwise it follows the series formula: a QLED quantum dot layer covering 93% of DCI-P3, an HVA panel, Dolby Vision and HDR10+, and Google TV. TCL Hong Kong lists 450 nits typical brightness for this size, a 60Hz native panel and no local dimming. The cabinet is 63 mm deep, slimmer than the 69.5 mm 65 and 75-inch models, and weighs 30.3 kg without its feet.

Key features

ONKYO 2.1 sound, only at 85 inches

TCL states that the ONKYO 2.1 Hi-Fi system is fitted to the 85-inch P7L only, while the 75, 65, 55, 50 and 43-inch sizes use 2.0 speakers. The specification sheet lists 30W across 2.1 channels, with an independent bass unit on the back of the set, plus Dolby Atmos and DTS Virtual:X decoding. In a large room that gives fuller low end than the smaller P7L models without adding a soundbar, although a dedicated sound system will still go further with film soundtracks.

Quantum dot colour on an HVA panel

The QLED layer takes colour coverage to 93% of DCI-P3, and TCL's AiPQ processor handles AI contrast, colour, clarity, motion and HDR adjustment. HDR support covers Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HLG. The backlight has no local dimming, and TCL lists typical brightness of 450 nits for the 85-inch, a little higher than the 400 nits of the 65 and 75-inch sizes. TCL quotes a 5000:1 native contrast for its HVA panels but says the figure varies by size, and it does not publish the 85-inch value.

Feet, wall mounting and delivery

The P7L stands on two feet rather than a centre pedestal, and TCL lists them spanning 1477.5 mm with a 372 mm depth, so your TV bench needs to be nearly 1.5 metres wide. Wall mounting uses a 600 x 400 VESA pattern for a 30.3 kg set, and plasterboard false walls need checking first. TCL gives the carton dimensions as 2060, 1260 and 190 mm with a packed weight of 48 kg, so check lift, door and stair clearances before ordering. Installation is available as a paid service.

Google TV, 60Hz and connections

This is a set for film, streaming and broadcast rather than gaming. The panel is 60Hz native, TCL lists a DLG 120Hz game accelerator and MEMC motion processing, and there is no AMD FreeSync support. Connections are three HDMI inputs, one USB 3.0 port, LAN, optical audio out and an RF aerial input, with Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.4. Google TV includes voice control and 16GB of storage, and Art Gallery mode can show artwork on screen when you are not watching.

Warranty and delivery

This is Hong Kong licensed stock carrying the manufacturer's Hong Kong warranty. The exact warranty term is stated on the warranty card supplied with the set. Viewing is available by appointment at our Kwun Tong showroom.

For an 85-inch set, delivery with tabletop installation is HK$800, or delivery with wall mounting is HK$1,500 with the bracket included. Collection at the Kwun Tong showroom is free, and kerbside drop-off (we bring it to street level) is HK$200. Walk-up buildings without a lift add HK$100 per floor, with no cap. Discovery Bay adds HK$500. Cheung Chau and Lamma Island orders are delivered to the Central pier for self-collection, without installation. Before ordering, please tell us the lift size, the door and corridor width, and whether the TV wall is solid or plasterboard. Installation is a paid service and is not included in the price of the set.

Frequently asked questions

How is the 85-inch P7L different from the smaller sizes?

In several published ways. It is the only P7L with the ONKYO 2.1 system and 30W output (the 65-inch has 20W over 2.0 channels, the 75-inch 30W over 2.0), typical brightness rises to 450 nits from 400, and the cabinet is 63 mm deep against 69.5 mm. The VESA pattern also changes to 600 x 400, and the set weighs 30.3 kg without its feet.

Will my TV bench be wide enough?

The P7L uses two feet that TCL lists as spanning 1477.5 mm, with a 372 mm depth, so the bench needs to be at least that wide and deep for both feet to sit fully on it. The screen itself is 1889.6 mm wide and 1152 mm tall on its feet. If your bench is narrower, wall mounting with a 600 x 400 VESA bracket is the alternative.

Is the P7L a Mini LED TV?

No. The P7L is a QLED set: a quantum dot colour layer on an HVA panel with a conventional LED backlight, and TCL lists no local dimming. At 85 inches, the C7L and C8L are the SQD-Mini LED options, with 1,624 and 3,200 precise dimming zones respectively, and both run at 144Hz native.
