If you searched "JBL Bar 1300", first things first: what is on sale now is the 2025 Bar 1300MK2 (HK$9,780) - the 2023 original is no longer stocked. This review works the way we always do: no invented listening poetry, just the specification taken apart - what is physically real, where it sits on our soundbar ladder, and who should not buy it.
What It Is, in One Line
A complete 11.1.4-channel home theatre: one bar, two detachable wireless rears (they dock on the bar\'s ends to charge), and two wireless 8-inch subwoofers. Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, one HDMI eARC cable to the TV, no AV receiver, no speaker wire.
Inside "11.1.4": What Is Real
We defuse a lot in this category: "supports Atmos" does not mean up-firing drivers, and "surround" may be bounced off your walls. The Bar 1300MK2 is one of the few systems where all three things are physical: the "4" is four true up-firing drivers (not virtual height); the rears are two real speakers behind you (not beamforming); the bass is two physical subs placed left and right (most rivals ship one). That is what the HK$9,780 buys - nothing in the headline spec is simulated by a processor.

Against the Samsung Q990H: Picking Between Flagships
Our other 11.1.4 flagship is the Samsung HW-Q990H (HK$7,980), about eighteen hundred cheaper. The split is clean: the Q990H has Q-Symphony - the TV\'s own speakers join in, which only Samsung TVs can use; the Bar 1300MK2 has dual subwoofers (the Q990H has one), Wi-Fi 6, and the dock-to-charge rears. So the arithmetic goes: Samsung TV at home - Q990H; any other brand of TV, and maximum bass - Bar 1300MK2. We wrote a full Q990H review for the other side of the choice.
Who Should Not Buy It
Three groups, said plainly. One, small flats - two 12 kg subs and two rears need placing, and under about 300 square feet its scale is wasted: the Bar 500MK2 (HK$2,980) fits better. Two, half the budget but real rears must stay - the Bar 800MK2 (HK$4,480) keeps true wireless rears, with height going back to virtual. Three, Samsung TV owners - as above, Q-Symphony is the one thing this JBL cannot match.
Verdict
The Bar 1300MK2 tops our soundbar ladder, and it earns the spot: nothing in the spec is inflated, and what it cannot match on Samsung-TV integration it answers with twin subwoofers.
