Channels and physical hardware
The 11.1.4 label describes audio channels, not a count of physical drivers. JBL's official specification lists one wireless subwoofer enclosure with two 8-inch drivers, two detachable rear speakers and six up-firing drivers: four in the main bar and one in each rear. Those six drivers serve four height channels. Each rear weighs 1.3 kg; the subwoofer enclosure weighs 12 kg.
Physical rear and height drivers coexist with MultiBeam processing. Up-firing height depends on ceiling reflection and room geometry; it is not a guarantee that every effect is produced without reflection or processing.
Placement and charging
Allow space for one subwoofer enclosure and two rear speakers behind the seating area. The rechargeable rears dock on the bar to charge; battery duration varies with content and volume. There is no universal 300 sq ft cutoff. Check the actual listening area, safe rear placement, ceiling, neighbours and bass adjustment.
Comparing alternatives
For a smaller cabinet, JBL's UK Bar 800MK2 reference lists an 854 mm main bar with the rechargeable rears detached (1,163 mm attached) and one HDMI input. Compare cabinet width and the number of sources you need to connect, not only channel labels.
The Q990H comparison should consider exact-model compatibility, placement and connection paths. Q-Symphony needs a compatible Samsung TV and Sound Bar; owning a Samsung TV alone does not settle the purchase.
