The practical part first: which one you can actually buy

Before comparing, the stock picture matters, because the old-versus-new choice does not exist at every size:

So a genuine choice exists only at 65 inches, where the gap is HK$800. At 43 and 55 inches, what is buyable today is the U8000H — the comparison still tells you exactly what your 2026 set gained over its predecessor.

Across the whole table, four rows moved: upscaling, colour, casting, and the AI assistant. Each is worth unpacking against what a Hong Kong household actually uses.

Difference one: Google Cast — the one Android households will feel

The U8000H's official page lists Google Cast support, meaning Android phones and the Chrome browser cast directly to the set with no third-party app. That used to be a Google TV exclusive; Samsung only began adding it from 2026 — and the U8000H ships with it.

The U8000F needs more careful wording: its specification sheet does not list Google Cast. Since April 2026 Samsung has been rolling the feature out to some Tizen sets by software update, but has published no official list — so if you want Google Cast on a U8000F, ask about the specific model before ordering. (Worth knowing either way: the cast button inside the YouTube app has always worked on both sets — that runs on the app's own protocol, not Google Cast.)

An all-iPhone household will care less about this difference — though note that neither set's Thai specification page lists AirPlay, so iPhone casting leans on each app's own cast feature.

Difference two: AI Upscale 4K — earns its keep on older content

Both sets run the same Crystal Processor 4K; the U8000H's upscaling gains the "AI" label — AI Upscale 4K — plus Color Booster. The panel itself is unchanged: the same 50Hz LED panel with HDR10+.

An honest assessment: processing upgrades like this show on low-quality sources — older drama, web video, broadcast channels, anything below 1080p — where upscaling quality decides how the picture looks. If you mostly watch 4K streams on Netflix or Disney+, the generational difference will be modest. In short: the older and messier your content, the more the H's advantage matters.

Difference three: DLG 120Hz — real, but read it correctly

The U8000H's refresh row reads "50Hz, DLG 120Hz"; the U8000F's reads 50Hz only. DLG (Dual Line Gate) trades half the vertical resolution for double the frame rate and only engages on 1080p/2K signals — so 1080p games can run smoother, while 4K remains a true 50Hz.

Both sets carry ALLM, VRR and HGiG, so a Switch or occasional PS5 session is fine. But if gaming is a main use and you want 4K at high refresh, neither of these is that set — that budget tier starts at the M80H 65-inch (native 100Hz, 4K 144Hz on all three ports, HK$7,980 at 65 inches).

A calculation almost nobody makes: when the seven years start

Both specification sheets promise seven years of Tizen OS updates. Sounds identical — it is not, because Samsung's pledge runs from the release year.

The U8000F is a 2025 model, so its clock started in 2025; the U8000H's starts in 2026. Buy either one today and the H effectively carries one more year of software life. An entry-level set easily serves five or six years — and in years six and seven, whether apps still update is exactly this difference.

What did not change at all (said plainly)

After the row-by-row pass, these are identical across the two generations: the 50Hz LED panel, HDR10+, all four contrast technologies, 20W two-channel audio with OTS Lite, Q-Symphony (a Samsung soundbar plays alongside the TV speakers rather than muting them), three HDMI ports with one eARC, one USB-A, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.3, the DVB-T2 tuner, and Samsung Knox.

So if anyone tells you the 2026 model is a big picture-quality upgrade — it is not. Same panel, same speakers, same ports. This update buys casting, AI processing and an extra year of software life, not a new screen.

Hong Kong reception: the same answer on both

Hong Kong local-version sheets list DTMB, the Hong Kong broadcast standard; international-version sheets list DVB-T2. They differ, and this is the one genuine difference between a local and an international set — identical across both generations here.

• Mostly 4K streaming, mostly iPhones — the U8000F saves HK$800 and gives up little you would notice.
• Buying 43 or 55 inches — no decision needed: what is in stock is the U8000H, and at HK$3,880 the 55-inch sits exactly where "I do not want to pay up for QLED" lands.

Warranty is identical too: international-version televisions carry 10-day exchange plus a 3-year on-site warranty — on-site inspection, diagnosis and unlimited labour for three years, with parts quoted first and replaced only after you confirm.
