Local dimming used to be something you only found in Sony's larger, pricier sets. The 55-inch BRAVIA 5 brings it into a size that fits a bedroom or a compact living room: a Mini LED backlight with local dimming behind a native 120Hz panel, driven by the XR Processor and running Google TV. This is Hong Kong licensed stock.

Mini LED with local dimming
Sony's Hong Kong specification lists the backlight as Mini LED with Local Dimming, supported by XR Backlight Master Drive and XR Contrast Booster 10. Instead of lighting the whole screen evenly, the backlight can hold dark regions down while lifting bright ones, which is what keeps film letterbox bars and night skies from turning grey. Sony Hong Kong does not publish a zone count or a peak brightness figure for this model, so we do not quote one.
Native 120Hz with the full HDMI 2.1 feature list
The panel refresh rate is 120Hz native. All four HDMI inputs are on the side, all with HDCP 2.3, and Sony lists 4K120, eARC, VRR, ALLM and SBTM among the HDMI 2.1 features. VRR is enabled on HDMI 3 and 4 and ALLM on all four, so plug a console into HDMI 3 or 4 and keep the others for a player or set-top box. Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode are listed for PlayStation 5.
XR Processor, Dolby Vision and Google TV
The XR Processor handles upscaling, contrast and XR Motion Clarity, and the set decodes HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision, with XR TRILUMINOS PRO for colour. Google TV runs on Android TV, and Wi-Fi 6E across 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz is useful in crowded Hong Kong buildings where the 6GHz band is often less congested — provided your router supports it.
Four-unit sound in a 55-inch chassis
Sony fits the same four-unit layout as the bigger BRAVIA 5 sizes: two bass-reflex full-range drivers and two tweeters, 10W each, arranged as Acoustic Multi-Audio with Sound Positioning Tweeter and X-Balanced Speaker. Dolby Atmos and DTS:X decoding are listed. In a smaller room this is a noticeable step up from a two-driver set, and eARC is there for a soundbar later.
Why the 55-inch size makes sense here
Local dimming matters most in a darker room, and many dark-room setups in Hong Kong are bedrooms and studies where a larger screen simply will not fit. At about 57 mm deep without the stand and 18.8 kg with it, the 55-inch mounts close to the wall on a VESA 300 x 300 mm bracket, or sits on a cabinet about 210 mm deep. Warranty and delivery
This is Hong Kong licensed stock (行貨) carrying the manufacturer's Hong Kong warranty. The exact warranty term is stated on the warranty card supplied with the set.
For a 55-inch set, delivery with tabletop installation is HK$300, or delivery with wall mounting is HK$600 with the bracket included. Collection at our Kwun Tong shop is free. Walk-up buildings add HK$100 per floor with no cap. Discovery Bay adds HK$500. Cheung Chau and Lamma orders are delivered to the Central pier for self-collection, with no installation. Installation is an optional paid service and is not included in the price of the set.
