New Projectors: 8 Models Matched to Your Room

New Projectors: 8 Models Matched to Your Room

Most people choose a projector by its lumen figure. In a Hong Kong flat, two other things usually decide whether it works at all: where the projector can physically sit, and where the power socket is. The eight projectors covered here, seven from Yaber and one from Kodak, offer candidates for four different set-ups. Rather than rank them, this guide goes room by room and says which one fits and which one does not.

Three things to check before you choose

1. Compare lumens on the same standard

Match the exact model, region and measurement standard before comparing brightness. A K3 listing with 1,000 ISO lumens and another with 1,600 ANSI lumens should not be treated as equivalent merely because the standards differ. Use a matching official specification or comparable test for the editions you are considering; there is no fixed ANSI/ISO conversion for this comparison.

2. The operating system decides whether you get Netflix

Google TV, VIDAA and Linux have different app routes, but platform branding alone does not confirm Netflix, Disney+ or YouTube certification for every edition. Check the supplied model's approved services, firmware, account and regional conditions. If built-in playback does not support your service, consider a compatible certified HDMI streaming device.

3. Work out the throw distance yourself

Throw ratio is the distance to the screen divided by the picture width. A 100-inch 16:9 picture is about 2.21 metres wide, so a 1.2:1 projector needs about 2.65 metres. Ask for the exact lens ratio before ordering; in particular, confirm the K2S PRO Limited Edition and FLIK X10's 100-inch distances.

Living room, used like a TV: K3, L3, K2S PRO Limited Edition

For regular living-room viewing, compare these candidates by controllable lighting, intended image size, placement and sound needs. Confirm the exact edition's native resolution and brightness; a living-room label alone does not establish daylight suitability.

Yaber K3: a living-room candidate

For K3 as a living-room option, check the edition's official brightness rating against your planned image size and light control. Its listed features include Google TV, JBL speakers, Dolby Audio, autofocus, keystone, alignment and obstacle avoidance, plus two HDMI inputs and LAN. Confirm the supplied edition's service certification and leave room to check focus and alignment after moving it.

If you will move K3 between rooms, check the supplied edition's packed weight, dimensions and carry arrangement. Confirm its lens ratio against the available distance: for example, a confirmed 1.2:1 lens needs about 2.65 metres for a 100-inch 16:9 picture.

Yaber L3 SideShift: when the socket is not in front of the screen

L3's side-projection correction can suit a layout where the socket is off-centre. Check its supported angle and AirPlay 2/HomeKit conditions for your phone and intended apps. Digital keystone can make the outline rectangular while reducing usable image area and detail. AirPlay support does not override a streaming service's restrictions. A 1.24:1 lens gives about 2.75 metres for 100 inches; confirm the supplied edition's ratio.

For L3, confirm the supplied edition's operating system, supported services, lens data and availability from its full model documentation and product page. Plan the off-centre position using the stated correction limits, not an assumption that every placement gives the same usable image.

Yaber K2S PRO Limited Edition: check the separate-subwoofer bundle

The K2S PRO Limited Edition is worth considering if you want a separate active wireless subwoofer. Confirm what the bundle includes, where the second box and its power supply will sit, and which services its Google TV edition supports. For NFC, check the documented phone, app and casting protocol: tapping to pair does not itself guarantee app-free screen mirroring.

Room check: choose with the intended image size, light control and the exact edition's comparable brightness rating in mind.

Bedroom and ceiling projection: L2, T1 Pro DeepSea

Bedrooms rarely have space for a screen, so the usual set-up is lying in bed and projecting onto the ceiling. What matters here is how far the stand rotates and how small the projector is.

Yaber L2: confirm built-in streaming support

L2 combines a rotating stand with a Google TV listing. Check the permitted projection orientation and the supplied edition's Netflix/Disney+ certification. A 1.17:1 lens gives about 2.6 metres for 100 inches or 2.1 metres for 80 inches; confirm the exact lens and leave clearance for ventilation.

For L2, speaker power alone is not a listening comparison. Confirm its audio outputs and compatibility with the Bluetooth speaker or Sound Bar you plan to use; choose around the room and listening needs.

Yaber T1 Pro DeepSea Limited Edition: small, for a dark room

For T1 Pro DeepSea Limited Edition, compare the exact edition's hardware and bundle rather than assuming a colour change is the only difference. A bedside setup needs a stable surface, permitted projection orientation and ventilation clearance. Check packed weight and audio connections if you will move it or add a speaker.

Room check: plan for controllable lighting and confirm the exact T1 Pro edition's brightness. For Netflix, check built-in support or a compatible certified HDMI device. A 1.18:1 lens gives about 2.6 metres for 100 inches.

Travel, camping and rooftops: L1 Pro

Yaber L1 Pro: a travel candidate

For travel with L1 Pro, compare packed weight and dimensions, required power, screen space and playback connections. Check its native resolution, supported stand orientation and automatic adjustment limits for the supplied edition. Automatic features still need a usable surface, alignment and focus checks; speaker suitability depends on the location and listening level.

Room check: for L1 Pro, match the official brightness to your intended picture size and lighting. Check its streaming route before travel. A 1.19:1 lens gives about 2.6 metres for 100 inches; confirm the supplied edition's ratio.

Budget and games consoles: Pro V9 Limited Edition, Kodak FLIK X10

If the projector will mainly show a games console, a TV box or a streaming stick, a smart platform matters less than how many inputs it has.

Yaber Pro V9 Limited Edition: count the inputs you need

The Pro V9 listing includes two HDMI inputs, LAN, USB and 3.5mm audio output, allowing a console and TV box to remain connected. Before choosing for travel, confirm the Limited Edition's carry backpack, packed weight and official brightness for your intended room.

For Pro V9, confirm built-in service support and the exact lens ratio before ordering. If your service needs an external HDMI device, allow space and power for it. A confirmed 1.39:1 lens would need about 3.1 metres for a 100-inch 16:9 picture; do not use that estimate until the supplied edition's ratio is confirmed.

Kodak FLIK X10: a simple HDMI candidate

For FLIK X10, check native resolution, supported image-size range, lens ratio and manual focus/keystone limits. Confirm HDMI source compatibility and the USB media formats you intend to play; an HDMI or USB socket alone does not establish support for every video.

Room check: confirm FLIK X10's official brightness, supported image size and required distance. If your streaming service is not built in, check a compatible certified HDMI device and its power supply.

Two accessories worth considering

Yaber StreamX1 Google TV streaming stick

For a model without supported built-in streaming, a compatible certified HDMI device is one option. Confirm the exact StreamX1 edition's app certification, output formats and power requirements. A spare USB port alone does not establish sufficient power, and Google TV on the projector alone does not establish that every service works.

Yaber YS-100F 100-inch foldable screen

A textured wall can make surface details visible in the picture. For YS-100F, confirm the usable area, material, care instructions and approved fixing/support arrangement before buying. Match the screen surface to the projector and room lighting; do not assume a foldable screen is ambient-light rejecting or suitable for ultra-short throw.

All eight at a glance

Model Use to consider Placement check Streaming check
Yaber K3 Living room Measure lens-to-screen distance and ventilation clearance Confirm built-in service certification
Yaber L3 SideShift Off-centre layout Check correction range and usable image area Check AirPlay app/protocol and VIDAA services
Yaber K2S PRO Limited Edition Films with a separate subwoofer Check lens ratio, bundle and space/power for the second box Check Google TV services and NFC procedure
Yaber L2 Bedroom or movable setup Confirm permitted stand orientation and lens ratio Check the exact edition's built-in services
Yaber Pro V9 Limited Edition Console or TV box Count HDMI sources and confirm throw distance Check a certified external streaming device
Yaber T1 Pro DeepSea Bedside placement Check stable support, lens ratio and ventilation Confirm the service and HDMI playback route
Yaber L1 Pro Travel or camping Plan screen, lighting and power at the destination Confirm connectivity and playback before travel
Kodak FLIK X10 Simple HDMI setup Ask for lens ratio and focus/keystone limits Check the source device and its power supply

For the native resolution, lens ratio and bundle contents, use the exact edition's official specification. A 100-inch estimate is the confirmed throw ratio multiplied by about 2.21 metres. Keep native resolution, supported input resolution and streaming certification separate when comparing.

Frequently asked questions

Which of these can play Netflix without anything added?

Built-in Netflix support remains to be confirmed for each exact supplied edition, region and firmware. Google TV or VIDAA branding is not a universal guarantee. Where the service is unsupported, check a compatible certified HDMI streaming device; NFC and AirPlay do not bypass a streaming service's restrictions.

Can I watch during the day?

Sunlight and ambient light reduce projected contrast. Compare the intended image size, screen and light-control conditions alongside each exact edition's brightness rating. For daytime use, the room setup matters as much as the headline lumen figure.

How far back does it need to be for 100 inches?

Multiply picture width by the confirmed throw ratio. A 100-inch 16:9 picture is about 2.21 metres wide, so a 1.2:1 lens needs about 2.65 metres and a 1.39:1 lens about 3.1 metres. Measure from the lens as specified by the manufacturer and confirm the exact model before ordering.

Does "4K support" mean it is a 4K projector?

No. Native resolution describes the displayed pixel grid; “4K support” may refer only to accepting or decoding a 4K input. Confirm both for the exact edition. A projector with native 1080p can accept a supported higher-resolution signal and scale it down, without becoming a native 4K projector.

What warranty do they come with?

Before ordering, confirm the exact projector's supply edition, warranty provider, period and coverage. Review our TV warranty policy for its stated scope, and ask us which terms apply to the projector you are buying.
