Samsung QN70H vs QN70F: The Successor That Isn't an Upgrade

The name says successor. The spec sheet says otherwise

By Samsung's naming logic, the QN70H (2026) succeeds the QN70F (2025) — same "QN70" slot, next letter along. Put their official specification sheets row against row, though, and something unusual appears: this time the older model carries the higher spec.

This piece walks the two generations line by line — where the 2026 set genuinely stepped back, where it added things the 2025 set lacks, and what that means for the question Hong Kong buyers actually ask: which one gamers should choose.

The rows, side by side (55-inch, Thailand-first sourcing)

Read as a whole: backlight, body, speaker power, ports and casting are the same or near enough; everything that moved sits in one place — panel speed and gaming capability, and it moved downwards.

The headline gap: 100Hz versus 50Hz, and it is not a typo

The QN70F's official sheet reads native 100Hz, four HDMI ports all at 4K 144Hz, with VRR and FreeSync Premium Pro listed. The QN70H's Thai official page reads native 50Hz with DLG 120Hz (which trades half the vertical resolution for frame rate and only engages on 1080p/2K signals), three HDMI ports capped at 4K 60Hz, and no VRR or FreeSync rows on the sheet.

In practice: feeding a PS5 or Xbox Series X at 4K high refresh is something the 2025 model does and the 2026 model does not. This is a panel and port difference, not a settings one — nothing in a menu changes it.

Why would a successor do this? The reasonable reading is that Samsung reshuffled its 2026 range: the gaming brief moved to the M-series Mini LED — the M80H runs native 100Hz with 4K 144Hz on all three ports — and the QN70H settled into an entry, picture-first Neo QLED role. Same name across the generations; different seat in the line-up.

What the 2026 model adds

It is not all subtraction. The QN70H brings:

• AI Gaming Optimizer alongside Game Bar — a richer gaming interface, ironically paired with lower gaming ceilings
• Active Voice Amplifier, AI Sound Controller and Adaptive Sound+ — dialogue lifted automatically when the room gets noisy; the F carries Adaptive Sound Pro instead
• A seven-year update clock that starts a year later — the pledge runs from release year, so the F's began in 2025 while the H's begins in 2026; bought on the same day, the H carries one more year of software life

Google Cast and Vision AI appear on both generations' Thai pages — a draw. The NQ HDR versus Neo Quantum HDR and Micro Dimming Supreme versus Supreme UHD Dimming rows are quoted here exactly as printed, with no guess at which tier sits higher — though alongside a processor that dropped its Gen2 suffix, the direction of the whole sheet reads plainly enough.

What a Hong Kong buyer should actually do

If gaming is a main use — of these two, buy the QN70F while it is stocked: native 100Hz, 4K 144Hz on four ports, VRR and FreeSync listed. If you do not game and want Mini LED picture at the entry point — both generations qualify: the same Quantum Mini LED backlight, and for drama and streaming the difference is limited. Hong Kong local-version sheets list DTMB, the Hong Kong broadcast standard; international-version sheets list DVB-T2. They differ, and this is the one genuine difference between a local and an international set — identical across both generations here.
