Neo QLED names part of Samsung's Mini LED range; the M series uses the Mini LED name. TCL has QD-Mini LED, SQD-Mini LED and RGB-Mini LED ranges. These remain LCD, but colour layers and backlight design differ. Compare full SKU, gaming routes, HDR, apps and warranty—not names alone.
At a glance: the two Mini LED line-ups (as sold at Elechid)
| Tier | Samsung (international version) | TCL (Hong Kong licensed) |
|---|---|---|
| Entry Mini LED | M75H (43–85-inch, 2026) | P8L QD-Mini LED (75-inch, 2026), Q6CS QD-Mini LED (50–75-inch, 2025) |
| Mainstream | M80H (2026); Neo QLED QN70F/QN80F (2025); QN70H/QN80H (2026) | A400M QD-Mini LED (75-inch, 2026); C6K/C7K QD-Mini LED (2025) |
| Upper tier | Neo QLED QN85F/QN90F (2025) | C7L SQD-Mini LED (75-inch, 2026); C8K QD-Mini LED (65–98-inch, 2025) |
| Flagship / RGB backlight | R85H Micro RGB, R95H Micro RGB (2026) | C8L SQD-Mini LED, RM7L RGB-Mini LED (75-inch, 2026) |
Available sizes and gaming modes vary by model and region. Do not combine M75H and QN70H into one specification or rank them against every TCL model from native refresh alone.
Same technology, two vocabularies
QD-Mini LED combines small backlight emitters and a quantum-dot colour system; RGB uses red, green and blue emitters. RGB still needs LCD colour filtering and dimming control. Dimming names do not establish physical zone count or picture quality.
Numbers: compare published zones and brightness by model
This is the clearest difference in character. TCL's official pages state dimming-zone counts and peak brightness; If the Samsung page you are using does not list them, the feature name does not supply a number or prove lower performance. TCL's official figures for the models we sell:
| TCL candidates | Useful specification check |
|---|---|
| C8L / C7L / RM7L / A400M / P8L | Get the full region/size SKU's official zone count and panel type; colour-zone and dimming-zone labels may differ |
| C8K / C7K / C6K / Q6CS | A series maximum is not every size's count. Compare matching size and brightness window, duration and picture mode |
Even same-brand peak brightness is not directly comparable without matching window, duration and mode. More zones do not guarantee better processing or full-screen daylight visibility. The independent reference cited here is the Council's January 2025 test of 2024 samples; QN85D's result does not score QN85F or2026 models.
Refresh rate and gaming: the biggest contrast
By official specification, the two brands can be far apart at the same price band:
| Official regional example | Verified input information |
|---|---|
| Samsung QN70F (AU55–85-inch sheet) | 100Hz native;4 HDMI inputs accept4K144; compatible PC conditions apply |
| Samsung QA55QN80FAKXXM (MY55-inch) | 100Hz native;4 HDMI inputs accept4K144; not all sizes or markets |
| TCL and other supplied models | Check full SKU's native refresh, per-port modes, VRR and accelerator input/display raster. HDMI2.1 alone does not promise4K120 on every port |
For consoles, compare4K120, VRR, HDR and eARC port use; PC144Hz is separate. Accelerator288Hz is not native 4K288, and needs the correct source, input mode and displayed resolution. Do not infer no VRR from an omitted row. Further reading: QN70H vs QN70F.
HDR formats: compare the full SKU and source route
Confirm basic HDR, Adaptive/Gaming variants and passthrough for the full regional SKU. A missing format list is not proof of non-support. Dolby Vision can matter for streaming as well as discs and Apple TV; fallback depends on title, app, subscription and player profile.
Smart system: Tizen vs Google TV
- Samsung Tizen: One UI Tizen, SolarCell remote, Bixby voice, AirPlay; Google Cast depends on the model (the QN85F's official spec says No — Android phones cast via SmartThings or Smart View). The Consumer Council's 2025 test found Samsung requires account registration and sign-in before use. The 2026 Vision AI Companion's official supported-region list does not include Hong Kong, and Samsung has not said whether it works on an international version here. Samsung commits to up to seven years of Tizen OS upgrades.
- TCL Google TV: the Google Play store has the widest app selection, Chromecast is built into the platform, Google Assistant handles voice, and the 2026 models are officially marked as supporting Gemini; the Q6CS has hands-free voice. TCL's 2026 sets also add AI agents (cinema, gaming and office modes) and an Art Gallery mode (P7L/P8L).
Local app installation and playback depend on regional store, full SKU, firmware and service eligibility; minimum OS requirements alone are insufficient. Confirm casting with your phone and apps. Further reading: Android TV vs webOS vs Tizen.
Sound: compare the actual speaker and subwoofer configuration
Channel labels, output power and built-in woofer descriptions do not prove a listening winner. Choose a Sound Bar if dialogue, bass or surround needs justify it; it is not required for everyone. Confirm Q-Symphony compatibility for the pair. Connections: HDMI, eARC and soundbar connection guide.
Buying in Hong Kong: Samsung international version vs TCL licensed
This has nothing to do with the brands themselves, but at Elechid it is essential to know:
- Samsung (international version): warranty is provided by Elechid — three years of on-site inspection and fault diagnosis, store-provided repair labour covered within three years, with any removal and re-mounting arrangements confirmed before repair; parts are quoted first and fitted only after you confirm; 10-day exchange eligibility follows the published policy. On reception, international spec sheets list DVB-T2 while Hong Kong uses DTMB, so it has to be checked per model; confirm reception and installation arrangements; myTV SUPER, ViuTV apps and a DTMB set-top box are separate options, subject to model, region and service eligibility. Full terms are in the TV warranty policy.
- TCL (Hong Kong licensed): warranty runs through TCL's Hong Kong channel, with the term and registration as published by TCL Hong Kong; the specification follows the Hong Kong broadcast standard (DTMB) with native antenna reception of local free channels; and the sets carry a Hong Kong energy label (the P8L, for example, is Grade 2).
Which route suits you is covered in our licensed vs international version TV guide.
Which to choose: five situations
- Gaming: compare exact SKU per-port4K120/144 and VRR; do not exclude casual play by native 50Hz alone.
- Bright rooms: compare measured brightness and reflections under matching conditions; a peak figure does not guarantee all-day visibility.
- Dolby Vision sources: confirm each full SKU's format list and your actual title/app/player route.
- Everyone at home casts from Android phones: TCL Google TV has Chromecast built in; on Samsung it depends on the model (QN85F: officially No).
- Manufacturer service network and plug-in free-to-air reception: licensed TCL. A choice of 43 to 65-inch sizes, a lower price at the same tier, and willing to confirm reception first: Samsung international version — TCL's 2026 models are 75-inch only in our range.
FAQ
Is Neo QLED a Mini LED TV?
Yes. Neo QLED is Samsung's name for a Quantum Mini LED backlight with quantum dots, the same structure as TCL's QD-Mini LED. Samsung's ordinary QLED sets (Q7F, Q8F) are not Mini LED — they use a conventional LED backlight with quantum dots.
Why does TCL publish zone counts and Samsung doesn't?
Compare the official full size and regional SKU pages. If one omits zone count or peak brightness, ask for clarification rather than inventing a value. Published numbers need matching measurement conditions before comparison.
Samsung M75H or TCL P8L for gaming?
Choose by the full size and regional SKU's input modes, VRR and current quote. For120fps console play, confirm4K120; for casual60fps, native refresh alone does not rule the M75H out.
How long is the TCL licensed warranty?
It runs through TCL's Hong Kong channel, with the term and registration method as published by TCL Hong Kong. Our three-year on-site warranty applies to international-version TVs (Samsung, LG), not to licensed sets.
Do Samsung Mini LED TVs have Dolby Vision?
Check HDR support for the chosen full SKU, including whether you need Adaptive/Gaming modes and which content route you use.
Which brand's Mini LED uses less power?
Compare the exact models' energy labels or measured power under matching conditions. The cited January 2025 Council test concerns 2024 models; it does not rank the running costs of 2026 Samsung and TCL Mini LED sets.

Warranty and contact
To confirm the HDMI port count or HDR formats of a 2026 TCL model, or whether an international-version Samsung receives free-to-air channels, WhatsApp +852 9847 9793 with the model and your floor; we answer for that model, and for licensed sets we can send you the specification sheet. Delivery, installation and wall mounting are charged by size and on-site installation is available; see the delivery and installation page. Store: Room 403, Block A, Chung Mei Centre, 15 Hing Yip Street, Kwun Tong — a collection point; please arrange stock collection in advance, as the store has no demo or side-by-side comparison.
Specifications follow Samsung's and TCL's official specification pages and our product pages; where a cited TCL webpage omits HDMI, HDR or speaker details, request the licensed specification sheet for the full SKU rather than assuming non-support. Line-ups and availability change, so confirm the dated quote and full-SKU information. Consumer Council data is from CHOICE issue 579 (January 2025).
