"Which has the best picture — Samsung, LG or Sony?" In 2026 there is no honest single answer: at the same panel tier, the three are closer than most people expect. What actually makes buyers regret a choice is four other things: HDR format (Dolby Vision or not), how the smart system and remote work, the number of high-frame-rate HDMI ports and refresh rate for gaming, and — once you have ordered in Hong Kong — who provides the warranty and whether the set receives local free-to-air channels. This article follows those four lines, using the models Elechid currently sells. About our shelves first: our Samsung and LG sets are international versions, our Sony sets are Hong Kong licensed, and every Sony we carry is 75 inches.
At a glance: the three 2026 line-ups (as sold at Elechid)
The table is arranged by tier. Model names link to product pages; specifications and availability are as shown there.
| Tier | Samsung (international version) | LG (international version) | Sony (HK licensed, 75-inch) |
|---|---|---|---|
| RGB tri-colour backlight LCD (new for 2026) | R85H Micro RGB, R95H Micro RGB | MRGB95 Micro RGB (86/100-inch), MRGB85 Mini RGB (65/75/86-inch) | XR90M2 BRAVIA 9 II, XR70M2 BRAVIA 7 II |
| OLED | S90F, S95F, S85F (2025); S95H/S90H/S85H (2026, 83-inch) | OLED evo C6, OLED evo G6 (2026) | No Sony OLED in our range |
| Mainstream Mini LED | Neo QLED QN90F/QN85F/QN80F/QN70F (2025); QN80H/QN70H (2026); M80H/M75H | QNED86 Mini LED (2025, 75-inch and up) | XR50 BRAVIA 5 |
| Entry LED / QLED | U8000H Crystal UHD, Q7F/Q8F QLED | No entry-level LG in our range | XR30M2, S30 BRAVIA 3 |
Two things up front. First, none of the three has a do-everything model: Samsung has the widest range (43 to 100 inches, entry level to OLED), our LG selection is concentrated on OLED and large RGB-backlit screens, and Sony is a single 75-inch line. Second, we carry no Sony OLED, so "Sony OLED vs LG OLED" is a contest we cannot stock — the OLED section below covers Samsung and LG only.
Panel technology: what each brand is betting on
OLED: Samsung and LG take two routes
OLED is self-emissive, but panel construction, coating and brightness differ by size and region. Confirm the complete SKU; S95 or C6 alone does not prove QD-OLED or Tandem.
Mini LED: Neo QLED, QNED, BRAVIA 5
Neo QLED is part of Samsung Mini LED; M series is separate. LG's2025 QNED evo announcement says Dynamic QNED Color replaces quantum dots, so QNED is not universally quantum dots plus NanoCell. Dimming names do not establish physical zone count or ranking. See Samsung vs TCL Mini LED comparison.
RGB tri-colour backlight: all three enter in 2026
Mini LED describes backlight size, not a universal colour structure. RGB uses red, green and blue emitters but remains LCD with filters and dimming limits. Gamut coverage does not establish accuracy or measured brightness. See Mini RGB vs Micro RGB explainer.
HDR formats: the Dolby Vision dividing line
Compare basic HDR separately from Adaptive/Gaming; confirm the complete SKU and intended device route.
- Samsung: confirm HDR10+, Adaptive/Gaming and Dolby Vision information for the complete SKU; do not apply one row across the brand.
- LG: confirm Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG for the chosen size and regional SKU.
- Sony: confirm HDR formats and input route for each complete model.
Dolby Vision matters for streaming, discs and players. Format and fallback depend on title, app, subscription and player profile; owning Apple TV4K alone does not decide the brand.
Smart system and remote: Tizen, webOS, Google TV
Apps depend on regional store, full SKU, firmware and service eligibility. A minimum OS version does not guarantee local app download or playback.
| Item | Samsung Tizen | LG webOS 26 | Sony Google TV |
|---|---|---|---|
| Remote | SolarCell solar-charged remote, few buttons | Magic Remote point-and-move cursor; quick for older users to pick up | Conventional button remote with a Google voice key |
| Voice assistant | Bixby first; some models also work with Alexa / Google Assistant (see product page) | ThinQ AI | Google Assistant (Google TV platform) |
| Casting | Confirm AirPlay, Google Cast and app casting per full SKU, firmware and region | ||
| Account | Check the exact regional model's account and sign-in requirements for setup, apps and smart services. | Check the chosen model's setup and app sign-in requirements. | Check the chosen model's setup and app sign-in requirements. |
| OS update commitment | Samsung commits to up to seven years of Tizen OS upgrades | webOS Re:New upgrade programme (on models where the product page lists it) | Confirm the chosen model's published update period and scope. |
| 2026 AI features | Vision AI Companion — Samsung's official supported-region list does not include Hong Kong, and Samsung has not said whether it works on an international version here | Alpha 11 / Alpha 8 AI processors for upscaling and sound upmixing | XR processor handles colour and upscaling; confirm model-specific official zone and brightness information where available |

Gaming: HDMI ports and refresh rate vary enormously
This is where mistakes happen most, because within one brand the gap between tiers is huge. Official specifications of the models we currently sell:
| Model | Refresh rate | High-frame-rate HDMI | VRR |
|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung S90F (AU reference) | 100Hz native | 4 inputs accept4K144; compatible PC required | Check supplied SKU's VRR and eARC port |
| Samsung QN85F Neo QLED | 100Hz (up to 144Hz, official wording) | 4, all 4K 144Hz | Per the official spec page |
| Samsung R85H Micro RGB | Native 144Hz | 4 × HDMI 2.1, all 4K 144Hz | VRR, FreeSync Premium Pro |
| Samsung M80H Mini LED | Native 100Hz, VRR up to 144Hz | 3, all 4K 144Hz | VRR, FreeSync Premium |
| Samsung QN70H / M75H / U8000H | Check each full SKU separately: native refresh, HDMI modes, DLG raster and VRR; omission is not absence | ||
| LG G6 OLED | Native 120Hz, VRR up to 165Hz | 4, all 4K 120Hz | G-Sync Compatible, FreeSync, ALLM, QMS |
| LG C6 OLED | Up to 165Hz | Port count per product page | G-SYNC, FreeSync Premium, VRR |

| LG MRGB85 Mini RGB | Native 120Hz, VRR up to 144Hz | Only 3, all 4K 120Hz | VRR, FreeSync Compatible, ALLM |
| Sony XR50 (HK K-65XR50 reference) | Native refresh is separate | 4 total HDMI;4K100/120 on3/4 | VRR3/4; ALLM1/2/3/4; 75-inch requires its own manual |
| Sony XR90M2 / XR70M2 | Confirm exact75-inch manuals for each HDMI feature | ||
| Sony XR30M2 | Check native refresh and separate120Hz / VRR / ALLM / eARC port rows before choosing | ||
| Sony S30 | Native 50Hz | 4, no high frame rate | VRR shown as "-" in the official spec |
Plan ports feature by feature. HK K-65XR50 has4 total HDMI,4K100/120 and VRR on3/4, ALLM on1/2/3/4. This does not certify75-inch stock or XR30M2. PC144/165Hz requires compatible GPU, resolution and settings. Further reading: QN70H vs QN70F · gaming TV collection
Sound: compare by use, not wattage
Wattage and driver count are not listening results. Consider room, dialogue and bass preferences; a Sound Bar is optional. Q-Symphony and WOW Orchestra require a compatible pair. Connections: HDMI, eARC and soundbar connection guide.
Buying in Hong Kong: warranty and free-to-air reception differ by brand at Elechid
This section is about where you buy rather than the brand, but the three brands sit under different arrangements at Elechid, so it matters:
- Samsung / LG international TVs: three years of store inspection and repair labour, parts quoted separately. Confirm full SKU, firmware and aerial signal conditions before ordering; regional app availability also matters. Terms: TV warranty policy
- Sony (Hong Kong licensed): warranty runs through Sony's Hong Kong service channel, with the term as published by Sony Hong Kong; the specification follows the Hong Kong broadcast standard, the official spec page lists DTMB, and antenna reception of local free channels is native.
Both arrangements have their logic: for the manufacturer's service network and plug-and-play reception, licensed; to save on the same tier and take five minutes to confirm reception, international version. The full reasoning is in our licensed vs international version TV guide.
By use: which brand suits you
- Dark-room movies: compare actual OLED SKU coating, HDR and source compatibility; panel construction cannot be inferred from a series name.
- Bright rooms: assess brightness and reflections for your lighting. No brand-wide brightness guarantee.
- Gaming: confirm4K120/144, VRR, ALLM and eARC ports separately. Do not choose XR30M2 on an unconfirmed four-port claim or rule out casual play by native 50Hz alone.
- Mainly free-to-air, for older family members: check the full SKU's DTMB reception, everyday remote controls and any account requirements for the apps they use. Set up the chosen model with the user's needs in mind; a brand name alone does not establish the easiest interface.
- 75 inches and above: every Sony we sell is 75-inch; Samsung's QN80F goes to 100 inches; LG's MRGB95/MRGB96 come in 86 and 100 inches. Measure the lift and stairwell first — see the 75-inch TV Hong Kong buying guide.
FAQ
Samsung or LG OLED?
Compare exact OLED size and regional SKU by coating, HDR formats, gaming modes and current quote. Dolby Vision matters beyond discs and Apple TV.
Why don't you carry Sony OLED?
Our five current Sony models are all 75-inch LCD (RGB LED, Mini LED, Direct LED). For OLED, our range is Samsung and LG.
Does Samsung have Dolby Vision? Does LG have HDR10+?
Confirm basic HDR and Adaptive/Gaming separately for each model. Streaming fallback depends on title and app, not a blanket brand rule.
Which of the three has the longest warranty?
At Elechid it depends on the source, not the brand: Samsung and LG international versions carry three years of on-site inspection and repair from us (parts quoted separately); licensed Sony carries Sony Hong Kong's manufacturer warranty for the term Sony publishes. Read the terms before you order.
Do international-version Samsung and LG sets receive Hong Kong free-to-air channels?
Confirm DTMB reception for the complete supplied SKU and aerial conditions. App alternatives need regional availability, account and channel checks; an external DTMB box needs its own aerial compatibility check. Confirm any tuning work included in the installation quote.
Which brand is the most reliable?
We have no cross-brand failure-rate data and will not guess. The Consumer Council's January 2025 test of 55-inch TVs lists each agent's warranty term and out-of-warranty charges, which is a useful reference; our own arrangements are in the warranty section above.
